I'd love a remake with a more focused sci-fi writing, if only for the challenge!, as long as the music is the 80s versions. Not any of that Justice-Phantom unmusical remix crap.
Argento was thinking desolate cityscapes, which are implied by the choices of locations. Like the almost empty road in the beginning, the dialogues happening in small contained spaces or temporary spaces like the carpark, the running through the forest etc. But it does seem that he tried to give this reading after the finished film to be honest.
