This is what Hammer are looking for: An extended 'glass-in-throat' from FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL (apparently exists on a Dutch laser disc). An extended 'body falling into grave' from FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL (apparently exists on a Dutch laser disc). Who knows if they'll find it... |

And I must admit, watching Horror of Frankenstein again, I found I'd softened towards it and rather enjoyed it on this revisit. Still not top tier Hammer, but there are some redeeming qualities. Energetic and enthusiastic performances from Ralph Bates and co, amazing set designs, and a nice musical score. So it's not all bad in my book.

I'm just surprised that it's taken 40-odd years for anyone to finally think about restoring these Brit classics to their former uncut status. The fact they can find anything at all is a minor miracle in itself after all this time. It's funny, because in their day the Hammer films were pretty much reviled by critics and generally considered trashy horror films of no consequence. They showed at cinemas, made money, and disappeared. No-one thought anymore of them...until they started showing up on late night TV. And home video and subsequently DVD gave the studio something of a renaissance and now the entire Hammer library seems to have been re-evaluated and are now considered classics. Funny how things change.

I love all the Hammer Frankenstein films, ditto the Dracula ones, these were, among many other Hammer/Amicus films, that helped create my love of the genre in my early years

I really like a lot 'Curse', 'Revenge', 'Created Woman' and 'Destroyed'. 'Evil' is a terrible film and I need to see 'Monster from Hell' again. My review of 'The Revenge of Frankenstein' on my blog - CINEMATIC SHOCKS: The Revenge of Frankenstein (1958) And my review of 'Frankenstein Created Woman' at Zombie Keeper - Frankenstein Created Woman, Terence Fisher (1964) |

Enjoyed your reviews Daemonia. Curse is a favourite of mine and I really look forward to seeing this one in all its glory on BD. Monster From Hell would be next ( hope they locate the missing scenes ) and Destroyed third. Although Evil isn't a great movie, I have a fondness for it and, like Curse, think it would look terrific given the HD treatment. |

It was great to see them restored on dvd,as opposed to what was cut on the Terror Vision vhs tapes. Let's hope these are on the BD radar soon eh? Hopefully Studio Canal will be preparing FCW shortly as well!
