Your Favourite Horror Film from 1968
1968 was a year for some brilliant horror films, but which one is your favourite? What makes it special to you? When did you first see it? Would you recommend it to the uninitiated? Sometimes it's a hard decision to just pick one film (even when you're limiting it to a single year!), but my favourite film of 1968 is... The Devil Rides Out - Terence Fisher Even though 1968 spawned some true horror masterpieces (Night of the Living Dead, Rosemary's Baby etc.), the choice for me is an easy one as it is a film that is not only my favourite Hammer horror, but in my all-time top ten horror films, too. Trailer: Runners Up: Death Laid an Egg Dracula Has Risen from the Grave Frankenstein's Bloody Terror Hour of the Wolf The Kiss of Her Flesh Kuroneko The Lost Continent Night of the Living Dead The Rape of the Vampire Rosemary's Baby Spider Baby Spirits of the Dead Twisted Nerve Witchfinder General Last edited by bizarre_eye@Cult Labs; 24th April 2011 at 02:15 PM. |

Night of the Living Dead for me, without question... though my favourite film for that year would be Planet of the Apes!!!

"The Devil Rides Out" all the way for me in this year. Not only Hammer's best film but a contender in my view for one of the greatest British films ever made. I think this has Lee's best performance in it and he just looks incredible in the role of the Duke, playing the character with total conviction. Along with "Simon:King of the Witches" this is the only film that carries any real sense of the occult for me, even if it is pure fantasy where as "Simon" is a pretty good look at Left Hand Path occultism from a truly occult point of view. One of my prized possessions is the tie in book of the film that my Nan gave me when I was about 14. This year also saw the second and third parts of the Findlays' "Flesh Trilogy". |

The Devil Rides Out is one of my top 20 films of all time. Like Black Sabbath, it gets watched at least every 6 months or so. An absolute classic of cinema. Last edited by Demdike@Cult Labs; 24th April 2011 at 09:41 PM. |

Sorry J.R. - Night of the Living Dead doesn't even come close, in my opinion. |

Witchfinder General for me, closely followed by Rosemary's Baby.

I forgot to add Witchfinder General to my short-list. Added it now. Two great choices of films there, Vampix. |

It's a tough choice between Night of the Living Dead and Rosemary's Baby but, following Repulsion and The Fearless Vampire Killers, I'm going to go with Polanski again as Rosemary's Baby is a film I could watch any time and one that really needs a Blu-ray release.

Night Of The Living Dead for me. Some fine close contenders though!

This was incredibly strong year. I think I'm going to have to go with Night of the Living Dead above everything else. Though its hard to go against Rosemary's Baby, Spider Baby, Kuroneko, and The Devil Rides Out.
