Curse of the Crimson Altar (1968)

This title doesn't ring any bells so i reckon it's one i haven't seen.
All i know is that it features two genre giants,in Christopher Lee and Boris
Karloff. Has anyone seen it,and if so,can you recommend it?

I almost bought this one several times, but never did it...
Besides Karloff & Lee, it also features Barbara Steele.

It's being shown on BBC 2 this coming Sunday (23rd) starting at 1:40 AM

It's pretty good in a Lovecraft rewritten by Dennis Wheatley kind of way, with a hint of Franco spanko for good measure.

If anything a bit more Franco spanko would improve it.

I never understood really, if you are going to perform satanic rituals and paint yourself green then why would you bother covering your nipples.

Are nipples just that step too far?

It's so-so, worth watching once but probably not worth owning really, and I love occult films.

Daemonia 19th September 2012 11:38 PM

I don't mind it but, as others have said, it's not really that great and not a lot happens really. If you're a Lee or Karloff completist, then you'll need to see it. If not, try and rent rather than buy. ;)

I found the film boring tbh.I'd recommend you watch it on TV, rather than buy it.

demonknight 20th September 2012 08:37 AM

Thanks all for that.

Would make a great double bill with Incense For The Damned imo. Personally though, i'd have to agree, it's D U L L. but il be staying up regardless haha.;)
