Default SALEM'S LOT 1979 Tobe Hooper

The early eighties.
The school summer holidays.
Stephen King's Salem's Lot was shown year after year over the course of two nights on the BBC,and althought it scared the shit out of me as a youngster,I couldn't help but watch it.
A glutton for punishment.

Danny Glick,Ralphie Glick,Mrs Glick and of course, that bastard Reggie Nalder as The Master...Jesus! I remember actually going to bed with bloody Rosary beads!

A classy cast and a great production ensures this is a classic that I still visit regularly, and it's time Warner gave it the HD treatment.

Any other fans of David Soul's most scary encounter?
(Well except trying to outdo Paul Michael Glazer's cardigans)

I used to be so scared of this film, I'm almost against watching it again in my adulthood in case it ruins the effect it once had on me.

The scene with the levitation outside the bedroom window - bloody hell

Love this, one of the better SK adaptions, certainly a better adaption than Kubrick's The Shining. I also don't mind the Rob Lowe version too

I was there. And so it has always made my "films that scared you" top 3.
The Master even still had to power to make me jump when I first watched the DVD.

You'll enjoy Mr Barlow, and he'll enjoy you.

I showed the scene where The Master jumps up from under the jail bed to snaffle Ned Tebbits to my kids when they were causing a riot years ago.
I told them that this was what came to get the bad children.

Well behaved children.....for a while anyway!

So.
Anyone who has some disruptive kids,to hell with Jo Frost's 'naughty step'

Use 'The Master Jump' instead!

Oh yes.
A classic line which at the same time filled you with dread!

James Mason was very quiet, but VERY menacing at the same time....

That's the one. Doesn't help the way the *bleep* hisses either.

Also I miss the good old days, when instead of pointless jump cut editing, they'd just freeze the frame and zoom in.

Obviously it's hard to like his character but I do love his delivery at times.

Straker: Ciao, Constable.
Constable Parkins Gillespie: Chow?
Straker: Ciao. It's a familiar Italian expression meaning goodbye.
Constable Parkins Gillespie: I didn't know you were Italian.
Straker: I'm not. The word is.

Easy to see what inspired Landis with this one as well....
