Default The Last House on the Left (1972)

Thoughts and opinions? I have to say, I think its some of Wes Cravens best work and it is one of my favourite horror films. It just shows how good 70's horror was.

I wonder had Wes Craven any clue that this film would become an iconic Horror classic ? Probably not such was the murky world of low budget exploitation film making. The film is tonally uneven - the bad comedy doesn't mesh well with the serious stuff, and technically the film is primative, but as Iggy Pop might say this film has a raw power. For years Wes Craven seemed embarrassed by the film, but Last House looks forward to his later films - the booby traps, the dream sequence, even David Hess' character's name would all later reappear in Nightmare on Elm Street...

Apparently, as a school boy, Wes Craven was bullied by a boy who went by the name Fred Kruger...!

It is a great name, and worthy of Cronenberg who can really name his characters. I always thought that Sandra Peabody who plays Mari is really a beauty, she has that quintessential 70's all-American girl look...

I haven't watched the film this year, but I feel like putting it on later. I've always thought it to not be as bad as it's reputation makes out, unlike say I Spit on your Grave or House on the Edge of the Park. The first time I saw it (10 years ago via the DFW DVD) certainly didn't require me to keep repeating "it's only a movie", guess maybe I was expecting more, I dunno

It doesn't look like this is an extra feature on the upcoming release, so I have put it here rather than in in the Arrow thread

And, no mine hasn’t shipped from Arrow yet

Edit: they have tried taking payment but it declined because I forgot to change my card details to the new one I got last week, they haven’t sent me an email about it though, I only found out when I checked my order status
