Surprisingly enough, this film wasn't as graphic as the many sequels are. Leatherface is an icon, though.

The original was definitely in the less is more category.

To me the original is a prime eg of how to be controversial with limited violence and gore, and that's a good piece of film making.

First 'legit' version I owned on tape was from cult video in Amsterdam.
