Default THE EXORCIST William Friedkin 1973

Another '70's classic! Jeez, didn't they make cracking films back then?

Another classic movie which was deemed too much for us by the Nazi censorship regime of the time!

Friedkin's film was a powerhouse of hype for Warner Bros and may well be the most successful horror film ever.....

Love it,or hate it,there's no getting away from it!

I love it! So well made and acted-it's legendary!

Opinions?

Which cut do you prefer?

What does everyone think....was the hype of fainting, vommiting all real,or was it Warner's huge marketing machine behind it all?

Was anyone lucky enough to experience it when first released on the big screen?

It was real in a few places then overhyped by the marketing machine

Still one of my favorite horror films of all time.

It's coming out in the U.S on bluray for the first time this October with Extended Directors cut and theatrical version, 3 new documentaries, 6+ hours in total of extras along with a 38 page hardbound book

Have seen this about 8 times at the cinema. The contrasts between silence/noise, light/dark remind me of Bergman's Smiles on a Summer Night....but then they would

I remember my parents telling me about when they went to the cinema to see it. My father was obsessed with horror and was always tricking my mother into going to see them telling here it was a western of gangster film. They said it was one of the most terrifying nights of their lives. The whole cinema was terrified.

My father was actually working the night shift after they watched The Exorcist and he had to walk to work straight from the cinema and my mother had to sleep in the flat they lived in at the time alone. The factory my father worked in was at the edge of town where there was no houses back then so more or less country side. He saw someone in the distance but the figure disappeared when he go to where the figure was a guy he worked with was standing in the trees smoking a fag and said i taught that was you so i waited to walk to work with you. My father said he almost collapsed

On the 31st of October there will be a 'Tweet-A-Long' on Twitter and this is one of the three films that participants will be watching and tweeting along too, I've seen a lot of the movie but in parts and so it will be the first viewing from start to end for me. I'm looking forward to it but i do find the scene with Regan stabbing her lower body and screaming '**** me' extremely challenging to get past. The movie is certainly shocking.
