Just out of curiousity: Did any of the locals express their thoughts on the US remake?:jest:

You kidding mate!? They'd have put me in a statue and sacraficed me to the god of the arseholes....

Peter Neal 4th July 2008 08:51 PM

Yes, I was only kidding!:p
Yours seems to be the natural, life extending reaction.:)

Creepshow 26th September 2008 11:49 PM

THE WICKER MAN is an absolute classic. It's my 2nd favourite film of all time;

1. Creepshow (Romero)
2. The Wicker Man (Hardy)
3. Duel (Spielberg)

Truly a masterpiece of the genre. Lee & Woodward (Woodward especially) are fantastic and just perfect in their roles.

One of the bleakest, most disturbing and utterly brilliant endings ever.

WaveCrest 27th September 2008 05:49 PM

I haven't watched all of the original Wicker Man. That ending, despite seeing it now a few times still freaks me out because of the hopelessness. I thought it was more gory than what is actually seen.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 2nd January 2009 06:04 PM

Just returned from a New Year break down there again. This time I was lucky enough to get a hold of an original shooting script for £15 in a second hand bookshop in Wigtown...;) Woman said it was brought in from a house clearance in Creetown. There are a lot of scenes which were never shot btw,I reckon this was down to budget/schedule restrictions....the Wicker Man enigma continues.....

bedorca 3rd January 2009 08:00 AM

You need to change your name from Reaps!! :D

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 4th January 2009 10:45 AM

I was also reading that Ms Ekland really put the boot into the area, claiming it was one of the most dire places she had ever been, and was full of hardened drinkers. The provost for the area at the time hit back that the Swedes promote pornography and promiscuity:D,and the producer (I think) made a public apology, stating that whatever pimples the cold weather had put on our sassenach arses, this was nothing compared to the welcome that we have recieved. We would like to distance ourselves as far as possible from Ms Ekland and her statement.......Fun and games she created eh?

vincenzo 4th January 2009 12:47 PM

I've just been flipping through her autobiography (True Britt) and the film gets a cursory 5-line mention at the bottom of page 149. Mainly due to Ekland saying that she was pregnant while filming it, and describing the movie as "a story with paganistic overtones". She doesn't mention it again.

According to the documentary on the DVD she was something of a prima donna on the set. Ingrid Pitt was far more approachable and down to earth.

dracucarr 13th February 2009 09:20 PM

A little late in the day, but what a great thread reaper! I was disappointed when I got to the last post. You've took some fantastic pictures too and it certainly makes me want to hurry up and get up there myself. In fact it would be great if at some point a merry band of us Wicker Man worshippers could meet up for such a visit. I'd love to go to Burrowhead and group together for a rendition of Summer Is A Coming In. The Lord's My Shepherd solo set to burning flames will be the part I won't be auditioning for though :D

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 15th February 2009 06:27 PM

Thank you kind Sir.You should visit the locations some day Drac.;)

Just to second what Mike Ashley's mascot aka Dracucarr said. I think that's a great idea actually and being a big fan of The Wicker Man myself I'd be well up for that. Hopefully the hotel I stay at will have butt naked women dancing around.

By the way, judging by those photos I still think the area looks creepy, maybe it's just me though? I can't believe how much they ****ed up the remake. Unforgivable.

She was a rubbish Bond girl too!

vincenzo 18th February 2009 10:36 AM

Agreed. Susan Penhaligon was originally mooted for the role of Mary Goodnight but when Ekland showed interest Penhaligon was dropped. :(

le wicker man pour homme........:d

vincenzo 23rd April 2009 10:28 PM

It makes you attractive to the girls. Especially Swedish bottom-slappers who enjoy a good bonfire of roasted Woodward.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 23rd April 2009 10:48 PM

Makes you HOT with ze voomen..........

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 23rd April 2009 10:49 PM

Think Christopher Lee or Edward Woodward will get cremated when they go?

vincenzo 23rd April 2009 10:58 PM

Lee's been cremated several times already (Scars Of Dracula, Curse Of Frankenstein, The Passage etc). :D

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 25th April 2009 04:55 PM

Edward Woodward's probably terrified from fire now.

Pete 27th April 2009 12:30 PM

If i appeared in East Enders like Woodward i would light myself on fire!

vincenzo 27th April 2009 12:46 PM

He's the 3rd Wickerite to appear in EastEnders (after Geraldine Cowper & John Hallam).

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 20th May 2009 08:50 PM

Any of the newer members rate this classic?

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 20th May 2009 09:40 PM

One of my favourite British horrors this. I have the 2 disc Director's Cut from Warner Bros. where you can watch the spliced in 'missing footage'. Great performances all round, and an epic sense of eeriness and impending doom... fantastic film.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 20th May 2009 09:44 PM

You'll do well here mate.
A Picasso of a film.Absolutely beautifully shot.

vincenzo 20th May 2009 09:49 PM

A superb film. No question.

I wonder how this would have fared with first choice Michael York as Howie? I just couldn't have seen it working as well. Especially during the harbour or classroom scenes.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 20th May 2009 10:28 PM

Woodward was perfect V.I can't imagine anyone else bar him and Lee playing off one another. How do you think Peter Cushing would have fared in the roll?

bedorca 21st May 2009 11:48 AM

A lovely film about a close knit Scottish community

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 11th December 2009 09:21 PM

Coming on Blu Ray,March next year!:bunny:

P-Mac 11th December 2009 09:35 PM

Michael Deeley needs a slap! The bastard buried the negative under the M6!

Who's with me to dig up that road :horse:! We need to see the full, really complete version. Although the "Director's Cut" is excellent, there is still a lot missing so it'd be nice to see the footage unearthed.
