Default THE LEGEND OF THE SEVEN GOLDEN VAMPIRES Roy Ward Baker 1974

One of the most underrated films in the Hammer canon IMO is Roy Ward Baker's collaboration with the legendary Shaw brothers,The Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires.
Bringing together a fusion of martial arts, vampirism, zombies and nudity, this is always unfairly dismissed as a flop.

Okay so we have a pantomime Dracula,but look at what we do have;
Peter Cushing as Van Helsing
Almost non stop kung fu action
A delightful piece of eye candy in Julie Ege
A zombie army
Original vampire creatures
and
An exotic oriental variation on the customary vampire myths and legends.

Definitely a winner in my book.

Drastically recut and edited into The Seven Brothers Meet Dracula for U.S. audiences,I prefer the original cut.
Any other fans?

I definitely agree Reaps. Extremely under-rated, brought the hopping vampire to the west, beautifully shot (seeing the DVD after years of Pan & scan TV broadcasts was a revelation!) and Peter Cushing!

I think this is a better film than several of the Christopher Lee sequels, to be honest.

It's a strange mix for sure and something of a misfire but it's hard not to like it. It's by no means classic Hammer but it sure is great entertainment.

How's this for a spooky coincidence. I'm checking out the cult-labs forum while Richard Stanley's Dest Devil plays in the background (never seen it before). Just as I click on this thread and read the first post, I hear "...They were showing The Bird with the Crystal Plumage and The Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires." I look up and there's a guy pulling up in his car next to a poster for it! It's a sign for sure, I'll have to watch it tomorrow post haste . . .

I reordered the ABUS disc after stupidly selling it!
Gonna check out the 'Seven Brothers' version again!

Apparently the Shaws cut their own longer HK version with more action and who knows what else but I can't find any confirmation on this.

Here's the poster of that supposedly longer version (notice the different title):

I have the Warner release & the OOP Anchor Bay release. The US cut included on the AB release is an absolute disaster.A bit ahead of its time this film & an undeserved flop like the underrated Captain Kronos.
