I agree although if it wasn't for this effort then Tombs would've been my first choice.
I just wish Return looked as good as the first film where DVD PQ is concerned. A lovely print afforded to Tombs but a noticably lesser transfer awarded to the sequel.

Got both the ABUK and BU Blind Dead box sets. The former from the late, great Music Zone for the wallet-friendly sum of £8 while HMV were asking a whopping £35 for their copy!

The BBFC might have accepted the sequence if it was a long shot but a violent rape focusing on forcible breast exposure and groping of breasts shown in lingering close up never really stood a chance at the time. As to whether it would pass now remains to be seen. I wouldn't place any bets on it though.
Thanks for the reply angel. I haven't seen any of the other films you mention, but I can't see how that scene was worse than those in other films left uncut by the BBFC ( Next Door being an example ). Wasn't there talk at the time that the film had been sent to the wrong examiner or something ( or did I dream that? )

I think the real shame was that it meant most people bought the ( more expensive ) US set. Maybe it was this kind of thing that helped put off ABUK from releasing cult movies? Ah well, it was a rare blip from the BBFC, so I'll shut up about it now

I first came across them in an old Alan Frank horror book in the seventies.
I remember this one too, reaps - it was the first horror film book I ever bought. It was the paperback edition wth Chris Lee's bloody face surrounded by hawthorns in The Satanic Rites Of Dracula...

That would be Frank's excellent Horror Movies book printed by Octopus. Found this again recently in a charity shop for £1.

It also has a photograph of the (unused) final Vault Of Horror shot featuring 4 of the stars wearing ghoulish skull makeup.

Can't say I heard of that, in any case when it comes to cuts several examiners would have seen the film. It was simply cut in line with BBFC policy at the time. Previously in the mid 90's the whole scene was cut. The scene also had serious problems in Australia. Interestingly it was the last film the BBFC cut that I actually liked although I didn't see it until after they cut it.

Yes the old Redemption video was heavily cut. I can still see Tombs being cut today.

Think he means this one Angel (aka Naboer). Not a bad film but went on too long for me.

Frank actually had two horror books out in the seventies. Both contained excellent photos.
It however, baffles me why two of the greatest British horror films ever are barely given a mention, namely THE WICKER MAN and DON'T LOOK NOW.
Reading the books,it would appear that Frank is a Hammer fan.
Anyone agree?

That's the one vince. I thought this was pretty good - something a bit different ( if a bit uncomfortable to watch at times ).

Seems that way. Interesting to note that he also includes photos from Devil's Nightmare and the bland Japanese Lake Of Dracula too.
