With the upcoming Blu Ray release of John Carpenter's CHRISTINE,I thought I'd start a thread about the film itself,it's source and it's cast etc.
An old favourite from the days of rental VHS Christine is,IMO one of Carpenter's most overlooked films.Daft and enjoyable with a convincing perfomance by Keith Gordon, this film in my book is a winner.

Any other fans?

Carpenter's various other films can be discussed here....

I managed to get one of the Blu-rays (along with THE FURY), so I'm really happy.

The first time I saw the film was taped from the telly in the late eighties. I've liked it ever since. I bought the sell-thru VHS a few years later (the Parkfield release part of its RCA/Columbia 'Hollywood Collection' imprint and was quite surprised to see what had been cut from TV, not least the bullie's nickname for Arnie Cunningham! :pound:

I bought the US LaserDisc in the mid-1990s and again, that was another revelation as it was presented in all its 2.35:1 widescreen glory and like most of Carpenter's other films, gained so much more for being in its original ratio.

I've had two DVD versions, first the barebones UK release, followed by the special edition US disc.

Although it's not one of Carpenter's top tier films it's still very good, imo. It benefits from a great soundtrack (both incidental score and the wonderful 1950s/60s source music used), the aforementioned cinematography and a brilliant central performance from Keith Gordon. I'd give the film a solid 8/10.

I thought this is a great flick and one of me fav childhood horror flicks!

Glad I got a copy of the TT on order even though I feel buyers remorse!

Yeah, poor old John Stockwell, traumatised by a demonic car in his teens,he graduated to the Top Gun school and bottled out at the first sight of a red russian fighter plane....

Keith Gordon IMO deserved a far better spot in the limelight than he got.He was also very good in De Palma's Dressed To Kill and had a bit part in Jaws 2.He packed in the acting for directing,If I'm not mistaken.

The film also features a young Alexandra Paul, some years before she'd fuel teenagers fantasies in a red swimsuit in Baywatch.

The film also features Harry Dean Stanton as a detective, and from DERANGED,Ed Gein himself,Roberts Blossoms as the mysterious hermit who sells the car to Arnie.

One of the better translations from the paper of King to the screen.

Anyone else read the book?
