Who told you there was real footage in "Cannibal"? Avoid them.

As far as I know (at least it was the case) the real tape of the act has never come into the public domain. Not even leaked.

Big fan of "Cannibal" despite the issues I have with the music and the (bad choice to do it) English language acting.

Otherwise it's a pretty damn incredible work and superbly crafted.

'Nekromantik' - It's certainly extremely strong stuff and very explicit imho.
But there are at least 2 other films based on the case and they are not remotely as explicit.
One called "Grimm Love" and one (supposedly really awful) by Ulli Lommel called "Cannibal" or "Diary of a Cannibal".

My (rather extensive) thoughts....

Both. Sex and gore. Certainly sex I would expect.

Bi? All the best people are...the others are missing out on 50% of the fun.

I'm looking for an interview in which Deodato discusses his inspiration for the film (I need to quote him in my dissertation). I'm pretty sure it's one with him in front of a white background but I can't think where I've seen it.

Any ideas?

Theres a few interviews with Deodatto on UTube, you might find it there. I have the green cover EC Deluxe Ed and that has an interview with him and his son. Cant remember what he went in to though as its been a while from I watched it.

I think his inspiration were mondo film makers Prosperi and Jacopetti.
Though I seem to remember him also mentioning other influences (not 100% certain).

Not to give a shameless plug or anything but there's enormous interviews with Deodato, Robert Kerman and Carl Gabriel Yorke in my book Taboo Breakers.

Taboo Breakers: 18 Independent Films That Courted Controversy and Created a Legend: Amazon.co.uk: Calum Waddell: Books

Good luck with your dissertation! I also advise looking at Mikita Brottman's writing on the film in Offensive Films:

I watched Bruno Mattei's remake of Cannibal Holocaust the other day and it was awful! I a big Mattei fan (oh the shame!) and usually find entertainment value in all of his films but this was just dreadful in every way. There is also some animal cruelty but I couldn't really tell if it was real or fake. I hope it was fake.
