Nightmare In A Damaged Brain - The Code Red Release

Come on Arrow, I'm sure I'm not the only one with an affinity for this sleazy ol' gem of a film. I so want to own this but don't want to part with hard earned cash for a sub par, cut to shreds copy with no extras...

Demoncrat 4th February 2011 10:48 AM

still has some of my favourite dialogue...its up there with DONT GO IN THE HOUSE in the "sheeesh, heres a real nutter" stakes....

Andydn 4th February 2011 07:26 PM

Nightmare!!! Definitly

This is a must, no known proper release of this yet. We want 'Nightmare' though as 'Nightmares in a damaged brain' was the title used in the uk for a shit cut version.

PaulRobinson 4th February 2011 08:22 PM

The US Code Red release is still on, as far as I know, but keeps being delayed. From what I have read it should be pretty definitive?

glyn007 6th February 2011 02:39 PM

top film

brilliant film i remember this when i was a kid, scared the shit out of me when my mum and dad went out, this needs a blu ray upgrade fully uncut.

nekromantik 6th February 2011 06:13 PM

well code red said it will be out end of last year...and as usual nothing happened.

bgart13 6th February 2011 07:03 PM

At this point, it's not fully CR's fault.

Isn't there a huge problem with the original negative? In that it has ironically gone nasty? I've got the kunst? film VCD of this which, although uncut on the gore, is a different cut of the film (one scene is slightly different)

I guess the next port of call is a cinema reel of the film. Must be one of those out there

bgart13 6th February 2011 11:21 PM

All that's left is the subbing of the Scavolini interview. The transfer is supposed to be done (a long time ago, in fact).

Amertume 7th February 2011 12:44 AM

I'm sick and tired of all the delays surrounding Code Red's releases - which made me go with buying an extended version bootleg dvd of this flick. Love it.

Also, I got the slightly(?) cut Box of the Banned release. Of course, the dvd quality ain't nothing to write home about!
:)

Nice. Classy.

Amertume 7th February 2011 03:08 AM

So you think I should've waited like four years just to get an official uncut dvd (which may never even surface), when I had the chance of buying an alternative version of the movie on the spot?

I mean, I love the movie and want to own every version of it.
If the extras on Code Red's official dvd is good enough I'll prolly buy that one also.

Well, yeah. Would you purchase a bootleg of something like TENEBRAE while waiting for Arrow's release that's been pushed back?

Amertume 7th February 2011 08:17 PM

Yeah. If it had a different cut of the movie, exclusive extras and beautiful artwork I most likely would buy it.
I'm actually thinking of buying the french TENEBRAE BD steelbook (looks like one, at least) as well as ordering the Arrow BD edition.

The French BD of Tenebre is not a steelbook.
Looks like it but it´s not.

I returned from Paris last 30th of January with my copy and is a normal, slim, all black case.

Jani 8th February 2011 07:16 AM

I have only seen the uncut Dutch VHS release years ago and loved it.Been waiting for the DVD so my brain hurts. It may be damaged.

Amertume 8th February 2011 08:47 AM

Jani: :D

springjack:
Cool, will prolly still buy it though... does it have any english-friendly extras? :)

I didn´t see the full extra but the parts I saw were spoken in Italian and French.

Buy it for the movie... the transfer is
Subs are non removable but they are small.

Don´t worry Arrow... your edition will also be mine! ;)
I just can´t get enought of Argento... both Dario and Asia...

Okay, sorry.

Are you representing Code Red as well?
Anyways, I hope it will include some great extras if it ever gets released. :)

springjack:
Thanx for the info.

I'm sure this will be made available in English quite soon on Movie-Censorship.com ,but for those curious enough there's a detailed list of the differences between the UK and the "unrated" version of "Nightmares in a Damaged Brain" with pics on "schnittberichte.com"- texts in German though:

Nightmare - Schnittberichte.com (Zensur-News und Schnittberichte zu mehr als 6000 Filmen und Spielen)

Zombie Dude 18th March 2011 12:50 AM

If Arrow would release this uncut I'd be all over it.

I would love to see this release in the UK by Arrow!
The Code Red DVD may never get released as its been delayed for so long.

Yea I'm not holding my breath for the Code Red release. It'd be really cool to see a bluray of this from Arrow but I'd be happy with a dvd release if the print wasn't in great condition.

So would I -- it's a film I haven't yet seen but, as with any horror fan, if it's available in any form, I want to watch it.

phsyco butcher 20th March 2011 02:45 PM

Only ever saw a highly cut version (96 mins) of this, which seems to have cut most of the plot since I could not make head or tails or it. That'll teach me for buying from the poundshop.

nekromantik 20th March 2011 02:53 PM

Yeah it sucks that there is no legit uncut DVD release of this anywhere.
There is a german laserdisc but that will be VERY hard to find plus that just uses the cut print and inserts VHS uncut scenes.

I rented it and watched it yesterday and, like you, found it a little difficult to understand! It seems a fairly decent movie that could do with an uncut release but I don't know whether the BBFC would change their minds on previous decisions. Here's hoping!

bdc 20th March 2011 07:39 PM

Code Red are still sitting on this one...seems the subs for the interview are not finished yet?
Also they seem concerned that sales won't be very good...

C'mon, just release it! x|

A blu-ray would of course be fantastic.

Wilson Bros 23rd March 2011 06:40 AM

You axed for it...

We'd love to see a decent copy of Nightmares in a Damaged Brain out there too, as it really is something which leaves a nasty taste in the mouth, a feat many horror movies just can't do.

We were lucky enough to see it for the first time on the big screen with a packed audience at one of the Eurofests about 13 years ago, it being another of the movies which had eluded us for some reason. The print they played was Swedish in origin, in pretty damn good shape, but was missing only one shot, which was obvious and greeted by booing when it failed to turn up on time.

The one is question is the shot of the dildo in the porno booth, resulting in a rather ugly splice. If that print was transfered to DVD (or even Blu) with the missing bit restored from somewhere else, there would be some happy punters out there.

For the record, our favourite bit is when the guy blows out the mike with his screaming of the word "SORRY!?!" when his colleague apologises for letting the psycho in quesion out on the streets. This got a HUGE laugh when we watched it with an audience.

Having never seen the film, you've really made me want to track it down. Like I said before, if Arrow ever release this uncut I'd be all over it.

Sounds like a good time :)

nekromantik 23rd March 2011 10:23 AM

Your not alone Zombie Dude, I never seen it either.
I wont be holding my breathe tho about Code Red.

Was the dildo bit in the original VHS? if it was then the german laserdisc should have it.

the "dildo bit" was definitely in the VHS i saw years ago, a sick little film indeed. it would make a great double bill with Basket Case in terms of sleaze and atmosphere....

bigandya 23rd March 2011 10:49 AM

I have an uncut VCD of this - which is obviously a bootleg.

I'd love to see a picture of the German laserdisc - I didn't even know it existed til I read this thread!

The laserdsic is just the cut version with inserts from VHS copy :)

I bought a DVD off this on eBay and it turned out to be bootleg
I not seen it yet though as its just a VHS rip and quality sucks.

then it should be in the bootleg version :)

Zombie Dude 23rd March 2011 11:50 AM

So I take it that there is no official release for this? Bootleg seems to be the only way to see this I gather.

robw285 23rd March 2011 12:33 PM

I bought the Dutch VHS years ago but i'd certainly upgrade to a decent Blu or DVD

There are official cut releases, for example the Hard Gore release (Poundland).
