Your Favourite Horror Film from 1986

1986 was a year for some brilliant horror films, but which one is your favourite? What makes it special to you? When did you first see it? Would you recommend it to the uninitiated?

Sometimes it's a hard decision to just pick one film (even when you're limiting it to a single year!), but my favourite film of 1986 is...

The Fly - David Cronenberg

Another masterpiece in body horror from Cronenberg, his re-telling of the classic film, The Fly ditches the cheesy b-movie persona of the original films, and replaces it with shocking visuals and terror as Jeff Goldblum's scientist undergoes his hideous and progressive transformation into 'Brundle-Fly' Although a depiction of body horror at it's extreme, The Fly still manages to tell a story of a subtle but doomed love, ultimately ending in sorrow. Well written and acted, this is one of Croneberg's finest films.

Possibly true, but it gave me the creeps, which is more than most horrors do. :eek:

I was trying to justify in my head Howling 2 so i could upload a couple of pics of the lovely Sybil Danning. - Absolutely impossible though.

I don't think anyone could justify The Howling 2! :lol:

Sybil certainly had 'something' about her - such a random film, though; definitely up there in 'the most unnecessary remake' category! :loco:

I'm gonna go for Cronenberg's classic The Fly, Henry:Portrait of a Serial Killer and From Beyond. :)

A close and undecided race between "The Fly" and "Henry" for me, the latter falling a bit more into my own genre preferences but "The Fly" simply has it all: Great direction, performances, script, fx...studio horror rarely reached those heights again.:coolblue:

Street Trash is from 1987,other than that it's a real gem.Here goes mine: 1 - Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer,then there's of course From Beyond,The Hitcher,The Fly,The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (love it)...But Henry is such an unique little movie,it makes my blood run cold every time I see it,and the score,simple but very effective.
