DON'T OPEN 'TILL CHRISTMAS 1984 Edmund Purdom
Here's another I watched during the festive period, and was glad to see that Mondo Macabro have done a spiffing job of this new dvd release. The best I've yet seen it,and that includes the past UK releases AND the Austrian XT release. My favourite of the Santa slashers, this one gets bonus points for typical '80's British sleaze and smut. A conglomeration of familiar Brit TV and character actors, this one is VERY entertaining indeed. Look out for UK porn starlet Pat Astley as one of the near victims! Fans of PIECES will love this as well. Any other fans of this?

I've long been an admirer of this greasy slice of Brit trash. There's just something about the way the English do sleaze (even sleaze-lite, in this case) that always seems a little curdled. I always think that British stuff from around this era - the early to mid-eighties - is really evocative somehow. Desolate, almost claustrophobic. I wanted the killer to turn out to be Boon.

This is amongst my fave chrimbo slashers. A bit daft but that's to be expected.

I think Purdom was the original director but the producer didn't like his film? Apparently 3 or more directors re-worked this one which explains why there's so many continuity problems...I wonder what was left of the footage Purdom shot (he also shot footage with some different actors it seems)? |

While it doesn't quite reach the heady heights of PIECES, I enjoyed it a lot, more fun than Silent Night Deadly Night that's for sure.

Sadly mine didn't arrive till Dec 29th! I'd only ever seen the heavily cut VHS version, so this was a real eye opener. It's complete hatstand logic (or lack of) add to a really enjoyable Brit slasher. And the Mondo Macabro extras - especially the 'making of' documentary are tops
