While I understand your points, for me Hardware is definitely more horror-themed than Terminator. For one, the Terminator franchise is mainly built around action with big budget explosions and action set-pieces making up the majority of the story, whilst Hardware concentrates solely on the malevolent killing instinct of the machine (3/4 of the film is the machine on the loose hunting and killing in an apartment). Also the fact that the machine in question is a completely non-emotional killing machine (there are no dialogue exchanges or human elements to it whatsoever unlike the Terminator films), may also infer a horror vibe. I see Hardware in the same light as I do a monster movie; just that the monster is made of metal. The Terminator films I see more as action movies, as there are more to them than actual cold-blooded killing. |

Yeah, I love it - I'm a big fan of Richard Stanley and Hardware for me is his best film.

I'm currently on Stanley's HARDWARE on BD.Cracking cult gem. Jacob's Ladder takes a bit of beating though.

Another guilty pleasure I saw on the big screen in this year (I think) was Ralph Singleton's GRAVEYARD SHIFT....It wasn't on for long and vanished after maybe a fortnight..... It was on in the old ABC/CANON cinema in the smallest auditorium. That cinema in Sauchiehall Street was like a 42nd Street fleapit!

I've never been a big fan of Nightbreed. I know it's got huge cult appeal, but I found it quite dull.

I really like Hardware, but the choice is between The Exorcist III and Jacob's Ladder and, much as I love the latter, I'm going to go with William Peter Blatty's film as, aside from the studio mandated exorcism scene, it is faithful to Blatty's excellent novel and has a couple of superb jumps. The Exorcist III
