Default The House of the Devil (2009)

Watched this a couple of days ago. Anyone else seen it? What are your thoughts on it?

I particularly liked the fact that director Ti West employed techniques & technologies to recreate the style of horrors from the 70's/80's, if I wasn't aware of when it was made I would of believed it to have been a much older movie (same could be said for Run! Bitch Run!).

Thought it was a bit slow in places, especially the babysitter in peril-esque sections when the main character, Samantha is exploring the house, but by gad the last twenty minutes!!!

I totally get what West was going for, but I do think that the line between slow burn and boring is a fine one. I won't go so far as to say I was bored by it, but just very underwhelmed. Some good stuff in the final scenes, but overall it didn't work for me.

I do think it's one that deserves another chance though, so I will be watching again.

On a side note, I got the edition with both a DVD and VHS tape. Strange how a VHS tape is a collectors piece now, but a fun little novelty on their part.

Saw this flick a couple of weeks ago. Loved the first hour. Seriously gripping, well made and acted. Then the flow begins to float around and forgets what it's actually doing. When the final segment unravelled i was extremely disappointed. It's such a shame. Was so hooked then saw the been there done that twist

I'll give it a whirl over the weekend.

I loved this!

The slow build up work just fine IMO. Loved those fade-out end credits!

I thought it was a fun tribute to the grindhouse flicks of the 70s and 80s but it flew in too quickly, and the finale was rushed.

Still enjoyable though.

My reviews up here:

I really enjoyed it, though the first hour might be a distraction to those who don't enjoy slow burners.

Sure, here you go. It's one of those kind of oversize clamshell cases.
