For me martyrs is one of my favorite movies of 00's so far the french really know how to make good horror without desending into the whole torture porn style that seems to be taking over most US horror nowadays. Its the kind of movie you want to turn off but are compelled to keep watching and leaves you shocked and slightly depressed. Martyrs for me will be a movie that will stay with me.

I just watched Martyrs again, and I think it might well be one of my favourites of all time. Based on rewatchability alone. This is my fifth viewing since the initial screening at Fright Fest is 08 and I am continually amazed, astounded and disgusted by it.

What a well put together masterpiece. A million miles away from the confused mess that was Switchblade Romance, and the action-laden Frontier(s).
That said, I've still not got around to Inside yet.n Ooof.

Such a great horror film. I love discussing with other fans what they think the poor girl said to the old woman at the end. I think there are several possibilities (POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW):

- she told her there was nothing to see after death, that this had all been for nothing
- she told her there was something beautiful waiting on the other side, but the old woman would never see it because of the evil she had done
- she told her there was something beautiful on the other side, and the old woman killed herself to get there sooner (I like this one)
