The Devil's Backbone, Wendigo, Sleepless and Dagon all stand out for me this year. It would have to be The Devil's Backbone though - a film of astonishing, mesmeric beauty.

The year's big turkey was surely The Hole.

I've tried to watch Session 9 twice now and never gotten very far into it. I keep meaning to give it another go!

Mulholland Dr. for me, a lovely little film about the descent into insanity and revenge. One of my favourite films ever.

Runners up would be The Devils Backbone or The Happiness of the Katakuri's

Mulholland Drive is fantastic, although I wouldn't personally consider it a horror film.

The Happiness of the Katakuri's is a mad little film that has to been seen to be believed! Not Miike's best, but definitely worth seeking out for those who haven't seen it.

I think of it on the same standing as Lost Highway and Eraserhead, dark, dark films full of dream logic and insanity.
