Question Your Favourite Horror Film from 2005

2005 was a year for some decent horror films, but which one is your favourite? What makes it special to you? When did you first see it? Would you recommend it to the uninitiated?

Sometimes it's a hard decision to just pick one film (even when you're limiting it to a single year!), but my favourite film of 2005 is...

The Call of Cthulhu - Andrew Leman

The most faithful H. P. Lovecraft film adaptation ever made, Leman's Cthulhu is a visual journey inside the infamous authors mind and work, bringing one of his most famous creations to life. Leman's film is completely shot in black and white, silent throughout (apart from the very fitting and well constructed score) with simple effects and cinematographic techniques employed to mirror the period when the famous work was written.

Trailer:

Runners Up:
Constantine
The Descent
Executive Koala
Haze
Hostel
Next Door
Reincarnation
Wolf Creek

AARRGGHH!!!

Three of my favourite films from recent years all came out in 2005.

Hostel
The Devils Rejects
and

Land of the Dead

(Idiot alert) I know its not lauded like Romero's earlier works, but i prefer it to Night, Dawn and Day. I can't explain why really, i view it as a comfort film, its full of action and zombies obviously, and its nice to see Romero work with a good cast.

Wolf Creek, hands down. A magnificent film.

Much love for Land Of The Dead, The Call Of Cthulhu and The Descent too.

Even remembering the film of Constantine exists makes me sad.

Land of the Dead, although it's the best of a bad bunch, because it was slim pickings this year (for me).

"The Call of Cthulhu" is amazing and by far the best Lovecraft on film that I've seen. I tend to think that his ideas are better suited to film rather than his actual stories.

Land of the Dead - at first I thought it was an average film but it's really grown on me with repeated viewings.

The Descent was quite good too.

Hadn't even heard of The Call of Cthulhu before.

The Descent slightly edging out Wolf Creek.
