Question Your Favourite Horror Film from 2008

2008 was a year for some decent horror films, but which one is your favourite? What makes it special to you? When did you first see it? Would you recommend it to the uninitiated?

Sometimes it's a hard decision to just pick one film (even when you're limiting it to a single year!), but my favourite film of 2008 is...

Martyrs - Pascal Laugier

Another fine entry into the French horror new-wave, Martyrs is a shocking, yet beautiful film. Some superb visual effects combine with a harrowing, gripping story to create on of the finest films of the 2000s.

Trailer:

Runners Up:
Bad Biology
Embodiment of Evil
Gutterballs
The Machine Girl
Mum & Dad
Splinter
Tokyo Gore Police

Agreed Tokyo Gore Police is ace, but I think I actually prefer Machine Girl, it has some really inventive gore effects and I think it has a bit more of a stucture than TGP.

Martyrs great too Pete, you should watch it asap.

Martyrs is a horrible film, sick , vile, depraved, you feel like you need a shower after watching it.

That must be why i like it, it provokes a reaction.

Slicer probably thinks its a kids film, and has double bills with Toy Story 3.

Eden Lake, Martyrs, Diary of The Dead, The Cottage, Outpost,...seems like a good year!

Then you remember Zombie Strippers, Train, the Shutter remake, Quarantine,Cloverfield, Prom Night...

The winner: Let The Right One In

Train was terrible, it had excellent production values, but the script was so poor. The characters choices of what to do in each situation were so unbelievable.

I know lets go with this woman we have never seen before on her private train.

Lets give our passports to two train conductors who have cuts and bruises all over and look like they have just been fighting in the local pub.

Thats just for starters. Bloody terrible.

Eden Lake was a great film. Kept me tense the whole way through. Martyrs was also good, I did find it quite hard to watch in the middle third though.

And I liked Cloverfield!

"Gutterballs" is such puerile foulness you just have to love it.

"Martyrs" is excellent, with such an interesting idea behind all the gore and torture.

I really liked Let the Right One In. Heard the remake was pretty good too but I haven't gotten around to renting it yet.

Agreed. It was worth a viewing but I doubt I could sit through it again.
