Question Your Favourite Horror Film from 2009

2009 was a year for some decent horror films, but which one is your favourite? What makes it special to you? When did you first see it? Would you recommend it to the uninitiated?

Sometimes it's a hard decision to just pick one film (even when you're limiting it to a single year!), but my favourite film of 2009 is...

Thirst - Chan-wook Park

An interesting spin on the vampire mythos, Thirst does away with some of the more conventional aspects of vampirism, but at the same time is an extremely well constructed and interesting film. Brilliant performances and some great imagery combine to create one of Chan-wook's best films.

Trailer:

Runners Up:
Amer
Dead Snow
Laid to Rest
[Rec] 2
Smash Cut
Zombieland

I enjoyed Smash Cut for what it was - a bit of a throwback.

Certainly better than the majority of horror films made in 2009!

[REC]2 is my choice here, but '09 was a pretty decent year with the likes of Neighbor,Dread,The Descent,Part 2,but also with some disappointments like Survival of the Dead,Zombieland and Drag Me to Hell.

Zombieland and Drag me to Hell are both amazing films IMO.

In fact Zombieland is my pick for favourite. Woody Harrelson is fantastic in it and the film has such a fun feel I cant understand how any zombie fan could not enjoy the s*** out of it.

I enjoyed Zombieland, but I couldn't stand Drag Me to Hell; terrible acting, a predictable and plodding storyline, poor CGI effects... I expected so much more from Raimi.

Both were fun at times, but not what I'm usually looking from a horror film.Too safe, too mainstream.

Hush, The Hills Run Red, Survival Of The Dead, Orphan, Zombieland...

I think I might go for Dead Snow, but my mind might change on this matter!

Thirst for me, just more proof that Chan-Wook Park can make a film in any genre and it be stunning.

Runners up, probably The Hills Run Red and Drag Me To Hell, both fun, clichéd little horrors.
