Anaconda Remake

Sony Pictures is in early development of a reboot of the “Anaconda” franchise, hiring “Divergent” writer Evan Daugherty to write the project.

The studio has not set up the project with a producer, director or actors.

Sony released the original “Anaconda” in 1997 as a horror thriller starring Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz and Owen Wilson. Directed by Luis Llosa, the plot centered on Lopez’ character heading a documentary film crew looking for a long-lost tribe along the Amazon River, only to see the expedition taken over by a nefarious snake hunter, played by Voight, leading to several horrific encounters with a massive green serpent.

“Anaconda” was a success with a worldwide gross of $135 million on a $45 million budget. That led to a 2004 sequel “Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid,” set in Borneo, as the protagonists sought a life-extending flower on a remote island inhabited by deadly snakes. A trio of “Anaconda” TV movies followed in 2008, 2009 and 2015’s “Lake Placid vs. Anaconda” in a crossover with the “Lake Placid” horror comedy franchise

BLUMHOUSE DEVELOPING NEW ADAPTATION OF THE THING!

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions are developing a new adaptation of THE THING which will be inspired by the full-length John Campbell novel FROZEN HELL. Producer Alan Donnes too to Facebook to break the news, writing:

It's OFFICIAL! I received my signed contract and first check! I am Executive Producing a remake of THE THING but with additional chapters of John Campbell's groundbreaking novel, Frozen Hell, that had been lost for decades. Now, for the first time ever, Campbell's full vision will be realized on the big screen. The new film will include the very best of RKO's THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD, John Carpenter's classic THE THING and both books, Frozen Hell and Who Goes There? Many thanks to a lot people but none more so than the heirs to the story for their faith and trust in me. I said I'd get it done and here we are. I am forever indebted to you!

In 1938, acclaimed science fiction author John W. Campbell published the novella Who Goes There?, about a team of scientists in Antarctica who discover and are terrorized by a monstrous, shape-shifting alien entity. The story would later be adapted into John Carpenter's iconic movie The Thing (following an earlier film adaptation in 1951). The published novella was actually an abridged version of Campbell's original story, called 'Frozen Hell,' which had to be shortened for publication. The Frozen Hell manuscript remained unknown and unpublished for decades, and it was only recently rediscovered. Frozen Hell expands the Thing story dramatically, giving vital backstory and context to an already incredible tale. We are pleased and honored to offer Frozen Hell to you now, as Campbell intended it. You will be among the first people to ever read this completed version of the story

Snap, most remakes are bland and soulless, lack tension atmosphere etc that made the original film. When are they going to learn ?

How about Carpenter's The Thing, The 70s' Invasion of the body snatchers, The Blob and Nosferatu, the vampyre.

All films i rate, there's also the remakes of Dawn of the dead and Night of the living dead, i prefer the originals but they are both pretty good.

I agree most are shite but there are always exceptions.:pop2:

Most of those are 70s and 80s movies. Not quite the same thing. ;)

Demdike@Cult Labs 9th July 2020 11:56 AM

There are several good horror remakes from the OO's in my opinion.

The Hills Have Eyes (2006)
2001 Maniacs (2005)
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (2010)
House of Wax (2005)
I Spit on Your Grave (2010) although the sequel I Spit on your Grave 2 (2013) is better.
The Wolfman (2010)
We Are What We Are (2013)
The Town That Dreaded Sundown (2014)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
Suspiria (2018)
My Bloody Valentine (2009)
Maniac (2012)
The Uninvited (2009)
Willard (2003)
Fright Night (2011)
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Let Me In (2010)

Some are unnecessary (Let Me In, Fright Night) but some also go in different directions to the original source film and make for worthy movies in their own right (The Town that Dreaded Sundown, House of Wax, Suspiria) but all are efficiently crafted takes on the originals.

Suspiria took me a few watches to fully understand it.
The Hills Have Eyes was brilliant.
The Wolfman was good.

I agree with Dem I Spit on Your Grave part 2 was good seemed to have more tension in it than the first one I think.

Rachel Weisz to star in reimagination of cult hit 'Dead Ringers'

Oscar-winning star Rachel Weisz is ready to explore the world of small screen by leading a series that reimagines the 1988 psychological thriller, Dead Ringers, with a gender swap.

The show will see the actress step in for the original protagonist Jeremy Irons. In a modern take on David Cronenberg's cult horror classic of 1988, Weisz will be seen playing the double lead role of the Mantle twins, who share everything from drugs, lovers, to desire to do whatever it takes.

"I'm thrilled to be collaborating with the exceptionally talented (screenwriter) Alice Birch. I can't wait to go on this journey," Weisz said. Birch will write as well as executive produce it.

"This update to ‘Dead Ringers' explores the darker side of medicine, obsession, and the human condition, making it a compelling addition to our slate of original series," said Albert Cheng of Amazon Studios.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 20th August 2020 07:07 PM

It's a story that could work well as a miniseries and Rachel Weitz is a tremendous actor. I'll be very interested to see what other names (directors, cast) are attached to the project.

Joe Hill Has A Great Idea For A Maximum Overdrive Reboot

Say what you will about the Stephen King directed Maximum Overdrive. Say whatever you will. Unless, you are among the small group of people that think this movie is awesome, than you are wrong. It was awesome and gets a lot of unnecessary guff. King wrote and first time directed while on cocaine and thank god, because it was great. Now, his son Joe Hill has an idea for a Maximum Overdrive remake that, I’m pretty okay with.

While on Mick Garris’ Post Mortem Podcast, the subject of Maximum Overdrive came up and Hill had this to say about where he would take his dad’s film about killer trucks, electric knives and soda machines.

“The time is right, okay. So basically, they’re all the self-driving vehicles. So it’s no longer a comet that sets them off, it’s a virus in the electronics that sets them off. And so you’ve got these giant Tesla semi trucks, ya know, wiping everyone out. I think it could be great.”

So, yea. Obviously. Yes. This sounds cool to me. As long as we throw in a little league player getting his head squashed by a steamroller, I’m in.

The idea of throwing in Tesla’s gone crazy and literally everything being electronic, has a real Black Mirror meets Stephen King vibe to it.

Not sure if this has been posted before,

Jordan peele to do People under the stairs remake.

https://www.collider.com/jordan-peel...-stairs-remake

Exclusive: Jordan Peele Mounting 'The People Under the Stairs' Remake at Universal
Wes Craven directed the 1991 horror comedy, which starred Brandon Adams, Everett McGill and Wendy Robie.

After directing Get Out and Us for Universal, Jordan Peele is set to produce a remake of The People Under the Stairs for the studio, Collider has exclusively learned.

Wes Craven directed the 1991 horror satire, which starred Brandon Adams, Everett McGill, Wendy Robie, A.J. Langer and Ving Rhames. The movie celebrates its 29th anniversary this coming Sunday on Nov. 1.

The original film followed a young boy and two adult thieves who become trapped in a house belonging to a strange couple known as the Robesons after breaking in to steal their rare coin collection. They find a lot more than they bargained for waiting for them in the basement.

The People Under the Stairs was hailed as a disturbing and deranged horror satire that offered biting social commentary, and while numerous reviews compared the Robesons to nightmare versions of Ronald and Nancy Reagan, one LA Weekly critic compared them to noted racists Donald Sterling and Donald Trump. The latter Donald proved to be a particularly apt comparison, seeing as the Robesons also keep kids in cages.

Peele will produce the remake alongside Win Rosenfeld via their Monkeypaw Productions banner, and though Peele is not expected to direct the film himself, it remains unclear whether he and/or Rosenfeld will have a hand in writing the script, as they did in co-writing Candyman alongside director Nia DaCosta.

The People Under the Stairs is the first Craven movie to get the remake treatment since the director's death in 2015 -- two months after the Scream TV series debuted on MTV. In fact, Craven was developing a People Under the Stairs TV series for the SyFy Channel prior to his death. That show never moved forward, but it was described as "a contemporary Downton Abbey meets Amityville Horror" that would've followed "a young woman [who] goes missing at the grand Robeson Family Manor” and the “centuries-old horrors that lie deep within the estate.” Expect Peele's company to steer things in a different direction and emphasize the film's social commentary.

Peele has yet to announce his third feature as a director, and the only acting gigs he has announced are voice roles in Henry Selick's animated horror-comedy Wendell and Wild, Evan Marlowe's animated horror movie Abruptio and the fourth season of Netflix's animated comedy Big Mouth, in which Peele voices the Ghost of Duke Ellington.

Peele is one of the executive producers behind HBO's buzzy new series Lovecraft Country along with Misha Green and J.J. Abrams, and he's also an executive producer on the Amazon series Hunters, which is, shall we say, more my cup of tea. Additionally, Peele continues to serve as the narrator and executive producer of The Twilight Zone on CBS All Access. He's represented by CAA, Artists First and attorney Jared Levine

Even tho not much of a trailer (half a minute) it looks pretty decent, I tend to like a lot of Japanese films, but only thing that spoils them is they can go a bit ott in the way they act and the gore quite often comes across ridiculously stupid and overkill instead of being quite believable.

MOVIESFirst Look at ‘Hide and Seek’ Remake, Acquired by Saban FilmsPublished 3 hours ago on March 5, 2021 By Brad Miska

Bloody Disgusting has just scored a first look at CJ Entertainment’s horror-thriller remake Hide And Seek with news that Saban Films has taken North American, UK and Irish rights to the Joel David Moore (Hatchet, Youth in Oregon) directed redo of the 2013 hit (read our review).

“Dracula’s” Jonathan Rhys Meyers leads cast alongside Jacinda Barrett (“Bloodline”), Joe Pantoliano (“The Sopranos”) and Mustafa Shakir (“Luke Cage”).

“When a wealthy businessman follows a lead to find his missing brother, he dives headlong into a twisted underworld of squatters and vagrants that threatens to tear apart his family as he struggles to maintain his sanity.”

“Hide and Seek is a social horror-thriller that builds upon themes related to the widening gap between the upper 1% and the lower class,” explains the press release. “As population in urban areas balloon and real estate prices skyrocket, lower-income segments of society are finding themselves continually getting pushed out. This film explores the question of ‘what if’ when those left marginalized decide to take matters, and homes, into their own hands.”

Not according to what William Friedkin said late last year:

"William Friedkin’s 1973 horror classic “The Exorcist” is the gift that keeps on giving, with a total of five films spawning out of William Peter Blatty’s source novel, and even a canceled Fox TV series from 2017. Reports emerged back in August that a reboot of the possession tale that started ’em all was in the works from Morgan Creek Entertainment, planned for theaters in 2021.

But director Friedkin is here to tell you that whatever “Exorcist” reboot or remake is in the cards, he has nothing to do with it. “There’s a rumor on IMDb that I’m involved with a new version of ‘The Exorcist,'” he tweeted this week. “This isn’t a rumor, it’s a flat-out lie. There’s not enough money or motivation in the world to get me to do this.”

Indeed, Friedkin hasn’t been involved with any of the “Exorcist” spinoff films, which most recently included “Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist,” directed by Paul Schrader and released in 2005. Friedkin’s last feature film, however, was 2017’s “The Devil and Father Amorth,” a documentary about a priest, Father Gabriele Amorth, as he performs his ninth exorcism on an Italian woman. Clearly the material still fascinates him. Earlier this year, Alexandre O. Philippe’s documentary “Leap of Faith: William Friedkin on The Exorcist” released, taking a deep dive into the making of the 1973 that reportedly sent audiences reeling down the aisles."

Christine

https://www.ihorror.com/bryan-fuller...cn2FDn8Y8bSuY8

Bryan Fuller (Hannibal) is set to write and direct a brand new adaptation of Stephen King’s Christine for Sony and Blumhouse Studios.

King’s novel focuses on a young man named Arnie who becomes obsessed with a 1958 Plymouth Fury that he purchases to fix up. The car has a sinister past and a taste for blood and soon it bends the young man to its will while eliminating anyone who insults them or tries to separate them.

The book was previously adapted by John Carpenter back in 1983. The horror master’s vision of the novel came with a killer score as well as an unforgettable soundtrack of classic 50s/60s rock.

According to Deadline, Jason Blum will produce the film under the Blumhouse banner along with Vincenzo Natali and Steven Hoban. Peter Kang is repping Sony Picture on the film.

Fuller comes to the piece with a solid catalog of work in the genre including cult-television favorites like Hannibal and Pushing Daisies as well as his work on the first–and many would argue best–season of American Gods based on the novel by Neil Gaiman.

The new adaptation joins a rather extensive queue of film adaptations of King’s properties over the last decade with new versions of The Stand and Firestarter as well as first-time adaptation of properties like The Outsider and Lisey’s Story, both of which have received incredible reviews

Another remake,

Pumpkinhead,

https://bloody-disgusting.com/exclus...ssic-exclusive

Pumpkinhead’: Paramount Players Conjuring a Remake of Stan Winston’s Classic,

Every horror fan knows Paramount Pictures, but Paramount Players is quietly building out quite the horror library. They were not only behind last year’s Spell, but also this October’s Paranormal Activity: The Next of Kin, and are also in production on several horror films from Orphan: First Kill to the Pet Sematary prequel, Something’s Wrong With Rose and Curfew.

The production label is looking hard into developing existing intellectual properties, which is why they’re conjuring up a remake of Pumpkinhead, Bloody Disgusting learned exclusively.

Lance Henriksen starred in the original Stan Winston-directed 1988 creature feature as Ed Harley, a grieving father who conjures up the titular monster in an effort to kill those who took his young son from him.

We hear a script is completed and that production is ramping up. Hoping to have director news in the coming months.

A few years back, Peter Block was announced to be producing the new film from a screenplay by Nate Atkins.

The franchise spawned three sequels, the 1994 Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings, as well as the made-for-TV follows ups Pumpkinhead: Ashes to Ashes and Pumpkinhead: Blood Feud, broadcast on Syfy in October 2006 and on February 10, 2007, respectively.

Pumpkinhead was also turned into a comic book and even a poorly-received video game, Bloodwings: Pumpkinhead’s Revenge, back in 1995

Mario Bava’s Shocking ‘Rabid Dogs’ Is Getting Remade…Again.

Mario Bava’s crime thriller Rabid Dogs was remade by French director Éric Hannezo back in 2015 and was pretty well received. Now, an English-language remake is in the works for the cult film with Samuel Franco and Evan Kilgore penning the screenplay, writes Deadline.

The site notes that Franco and Kilgore have acquired the remake rights to the 1974 feature which follows the bungled robbery of three violent criminals and the hostages they take – including a young woman, a middle-aged man, and his child – as they attempt to make a clean getaway from the police.

“The U.S. scribes have been working out the original film’s sexist tones to reimagine the film as a present-day thriller and the first in a trilogy,” add the site.

The film’s original producer Alfredo Leone is aboard as exec-producer.

“Samuel and Evan are bright and have creatively mapped out an exciting new way to breathe new life into this film,” stated Leone. “To modernize it as an action-packed thriller. Something Mario would have loved. I can’t wait to see it come together.”

“We love thrillers, and this story has got a final plot twist that really shakes you. It’s genuinely shocking, and we’re excited and honored to be given the keys to remaking this classic, and to partner with Mr. Leone,” added Kilgore.

Franco will produce; Franco and Kilgore will write, with plans to shoot in 2022 for a 2023 release; Kilgore will also serve as exec producer.
