'Jigsaw' Star to Topline 'Rabid', Remake of David Cronenberg's Horror Classic! - Bloody Disgusting

MOVIES‘Jigsaw’ Star to Topline ‘Rabid’, Remake of David Cronenberg’s Horror Classic!by Brad Miska May 11, 2018
Casting is officially underway on Rabid, a remake of the 1977 David Cronenberg film of the same name.

Bloody Disgusting learned this morning that Jigsaw star Laura Vandervoort will lead the cast of the remake, which is to be helmed by the “Twisted Twins” aka, the Soska Sisters (American Mary, Dead Hooker In a Trunk).

Drawing influence from the original movie, the remake will follow Rose, a young woman who, after an accident leaves her scarred beyond recognition, undergoes a radical untested stem-cell treatment. While turning Rose into the belle of the ball, the experimental transformation comes at a price.

Rabid is written by Jen Soska, Sylvia Soska and John Serge.

From Clay Epstein’s Film Mode Entertainment, Rabid has already been sold to 101 FILMS in the UK, Shout! Studios in the US and A71 in Canada.

Early days yet, but...

‘Arachnophobia’ Remake in Works From Steven Spielberg’s Amblin, James Wan | Variety

I have to ask: 'Why'?

The original is a classic. Presumably this new one will be CGI heavy while the original relied on practical effects which (as far as I am concerned) always work better

Certainly won’t be watching that, and not because it’s a remake of a “classic” but because the last time I watched Arachnophobia when I was a kid I had nightmares about spiders for weeks and have no desire to repeat that as an adult!

You just know it'll be a CGI suck fest.

'The Witches': Guillermo del Toro Producing Robert Zemeckis Directed Remake! - Bloody Disgusting

"Robert Zemeckis is in final negotiations to direct Warner Bros.’ latest adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic book, which is being produced by Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo del Toro, says Variety.

Zemeckis will also pen the script, with his partner Jack Rapke producing through their banner ImageMovers. Del Toro had long been attached to direct, but a scheduling conflict led the Oscar winner to vacate the director’s chair."

This part of the article is the most pleasing:

"Based on the 1973 novel, the film follows a seven-year-old boy who has a run in with real-life witches. Zemeckis’ version will be more rooted in the original source material, which had a much darker, franchise-beginning finale (the young boy remains a mouse and must spend his short life hunting and killing all of those registered in the Grand High Witch’s address book)."

I really like Nicholas Roeg's film, but the ending bugs me because I love the way the book finishes.

Buffy is being rebooted. The new one's going to be black. Of course.

It's not good enough. I think a social media campaign should be undertaken to force the new Buffy to be a man. We've had over a quarter of a century of a female Buffy. It's TIME.

But you have already had 87 years of a vampire killer being a white male!

Anyway, there has already been a black slayer in 'Buffy'. Remember Kendra...

...And Nikki Wood?
