Snap, most remakes are bland and soulless, lack tension atmosphere etc that made the original film. When are they going to learn ?

How about Carpenter's The Thing, The 70s' Invasion of the body snatchers, The Blob and Nosferatu, the vampyre.

All films i rate, there's also the remakes of Dawn of the dead and Night of the living dead, i prefer the originals but they are both pretty good.

I agree most are shite but there are always exceptions.

Most of those are 70s and 80s movies. Not quite the same thing.

There are several good horror remakes from the OO's in my opinion.

The Hills Have Eyes (2006)
2001 Maniacs (2005)
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (2010)
House of Wax (2005)
I Spit on Your Grave (2010) although the sequel I Spit on your Grave 2 (2013) is better.
The Wolfman (2010)
We Are What We Are (2013)
The Town That Dreaded Sundown (2014)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
Suspiria (2018)
My Bloody Valentine (2009)
Maniac (2012)
The Uninvited (2009)
Willard (2003)
Fright Night (2011)
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Let Me In (2010)

Some are unnecessary (Let Me In, Fright Night) but some also go in different directions to the original source film and make for worthy movies in their own right (The Town that Dreaded Sundown, House of Wax, Suspiria) but all are efficiently crafted takes on the originals.

Suspiria Not seen,
My Bloody Valentine, wasn't keen on it,
Maniac Very good,

Was never keen on the House Of Was Remake l.
Suspiria took me a few watches to fully understand it.
The Hills Have Eyes was brilliant.
The Wolfman was good.

I agree with Dem I Spit on Your Grave part 2 was good seemed to have more tension in it than the first one I think.

Rachel Weisz to star in reimagination of cult hit 'Dead Ringers'

Oscar-winning star Rachel Weisz is ready to explore the world of small screen by leading a series that reimagines the 1988 psychological thriller, Dead Ringers, with a gender swap.

The show will see the actress step in for the original protagonist Jeremy Irons. In a modern take on David Cronenberg's cult horror classic of 1988, Weisz will be seen playing the double lead role of the Mantle twins, who share everything from drugs, lovers, to desire to do whatever it takes.

"I'm thrilled to be collaborating with the exceptionally talented (screenwriter) Alice Birch. I can't wait to go on this journey," Weisz said. Birch will write as well as executive produce it.

"This update to ‘Dead Ringers' explores the darker side of medicine, obsession, and the human condition, making it a compelling addition to our slate of original series," said Albert Cheng of Amazon Studios.
