Poll: James Wan Movies

Hi all,

When it comes to modern horror directors, James Wan is definetly one of the best! I would not be surpirsed if he doesn't go down in the annals of horror, alongside Wes Craven, George Romero and the like. He's directed some excellent new horror movies that are genuienly terrifying.

Helping to usher in the gorno genre with Saw, and making horror creepy again with The Conjuring and the Insidious series, he deserves a place in the horror hall of fame!

But which of his movies are your faves? Vote above and let us know why below...

Apparently, Insidious Chapter 2 is his last ever horror movie, which will be a huge shame but at least he's gone out with a bang! What do you think?

Saw. I know that sort of film has been done to death and it even spawned a franchise which very much defines the idea of diminishing returns but the original film was an excellent "Seven"-tinged cat and mouse thriller with horror overtones and a remarkable twist.

Gotta agree with Paul and say Saw. I remember coming out of the cinema after really enjoying it, a friend of mine asked if I was gonna buy it on DVD when it came out, my response was something like this "No, I'll wait for the franchise to end and buy the boxset", she said that she doubted they'd make a sequel to it, she still owes me a pint!

the only 2 by Wan i actually enjoyed were saw and dead silence, could never get into the 1st insidious

I'm surprised of how much I loved Insidious: Chapter 2 and even if I like almost all of his other stuff, I would actually put that on the top of the list.

I think Saw would have to be his best. It was quite influential and the story is decent. The sequels on the other hand...

Insidious would have to be Wan's most creative but also his most uneven. The first half was genuinely scary (especially with the ghost screaming in the baby monitor) while the second half was goofy. I would like to see Chapter 2 but I hear that it's pretty much the same as the first.

The Conjuring would have to be his most technically accomplished but the only scary moment was when one of the daughters freaks out at the shadow behind the door. The exorcism was rather disappointing and I was more interested in the cursed items the exorcists kept than the rest of the story. Still a solid effort.

I loved the first Saw movie (I enjoyed them all but to this day still believe they could have left it at one and it'd be held in a similar regard as Se7en, whereas instead the sequels cheapened it), and also really enjoyed Death Sentence. Sure it's effectively Death Wish with Kevin Bacon, but I like the Death Wish films and I like Kevin Bacon (well, I did until those f**king EE ads..)

Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring are my faves. Saw Saw at my local cinema and was hugely impressed. Filled with tension, dread and restrained, IMO amounts of gore. Twist ending was a master stroke. Saw Insidious and The Conjuring recently on Blu-ray and both movies scared the crap out of me. Last movie to do that was The Exorcist. I think he's a great horror director

Saw and Insidious for sure.
The Conjuring wasn't bad.

Sinister is my favourite of the recent spate of these types of film.
Genuinely nasty in places.

SAW was a breath of fresh air,but when Jigsaw popped his claws the old sawteeth got rusty imo.
The kids have watched them all right enough......

Insidious was truly scary.
I'll pick up part 2 tomorrow...

I wasn't overly moved by Insidious. I might have to give it another go, along with The Conjuring, as I've heard slightly more good things than bad about it.
