Default Official Announcement: The Asylum

Get ready to step into madness with a fantastic, gory new slasher film that brings new life to the genre. It's a lot of fun and comes highly recommended...

THE ASYLUM

"A killer premise that sounds like the evolution in slasher horror"
SCREAM: THE HORROR MAGAZINE

From director Marcus Nispel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday The 13th remakes) and the producers of Paranormal Activity and Insidious comes this gore-filled supernatural story of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll possession!

When a group of teens party in an abandoned building with a dark history, they find an old vinyl record that unleashes a dark spirit when played backwards. But is there something even more horrific and terrifying in their midst?

The Asylum
is a genre-busting evolution in teen horror bringing together the slasher, the supernatural and the urban myth.

Key talent:

Directed by
Marcus Nispel (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday The 13th)

Starring
Stephen Lang (Avatar, Conan The Barbarian)
Kelly Blatz (Prom Night, TV’s Glory Daze)
Brittany Curan (The Uninvited, TV’s Twisted)
Brett Dier (Grace, TV’s Ravenswoods)

Synopsis:

Six teenagers host the sex and drug-fuelled party of a lifetime in an old, abandoned asylum, ignoring rumours that the once brutal and controversial home for the criminally insane still houses the spirits of its tormented victims.

After a series of increasingly daring games, they soon raise the stakes and attempt to summon the spirits that haunt the building. However, they soon find themselves fighting for their lives as a vengeful spirit infiltrates the group, wreaking havoc as it moves from one body to the next.

You'll Love It Because

There’s much more to The Asylum than meets the eye. Though it appears from the outset to be a familiar teen horror, once the horror is unleashed the film proves it has real smarts – and the guts to do things a little differently, recalling the post-modern brilliance of classics such as A Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream.

After cutting his teeth in big-name horror franchises, Marcus Nispel plays on the genre’s tropes to create something altogether new with The Asylum. It’s like an evolution in teen horror, bringing together the slasher, the supernatural, and the urban myth. That’s not to say it doesn’t deliver to what horror fans love most – scares, gore and nerve-shredding tension.

It’s also looks stunning, as Nispel puts his trademark stamp of high production values and slick-but-eerie cinematography on the film.

And it’s not just about the man behind the camera. There’s plenty of talent in front of it too, with a cast of rising young actors all tipped for big things in the movie industry. If they can survive a night in The Asylum that is…

Me and my other half are going through a phase of watching Poundland and ASDA specials, this looks like something we'd enjoy with a bottle or two of wine, so it's got my attention

It'd be cool if you review some or at least say which you enjoyed.

Like the sound of this film by the way.

At least it's an 18, though imo Nispel cannot direct his way out of a paper bag....

Phew!

I thought this was a thread about the film company, which specialises in making rip-off films from genre classics!
