The MPAA seam to be stricter now and mightn't object too much to the revenge scenes but I cant see them allowing 2 rapes as brutal as the original, to pass with an R.
Apparently they cut MSP pretty heavy, and if ISOYG remake goes for the same sexual violence, then it to will suffer.
I think the remakes and so called 'Torture Porn' movies of today might be bloodier than films from the 70's & 80's but they don't have the same viciousness or get under your skin the way the original ISOYG and CH, etc did.
I find them too glossy and am never left in any dout that its a film im watching, but some of the older films left you feeling guilty or questioning your morals for watching to the end.
No modern film has ever made me feel like that.
8MM came close with the 1st showing of the snuff film to Cage, then it just seemed to play it safe with the rest of the film, but watching that girls face in the film really had me disturbed and questioning myself, then it kicked into a silly thriller that had so many holes in it you knew you were back in a safe environment.

BTW, Sony Pictures has remade April Fool's Day.(NR)
Its currently advertised on DVD but I imagine this will get a Blu Ray release, as its coming from Sony Pictures .
Now they are getting desperate.

Good points about "8mm", VIPCO: I'd still rate it slightly better, but that's mostly due to a cracking script by Andrew Kevin Walker, which even Joel Schumacher can't fully screw up, and the before mentioned snuff movie scene. Joaquin Phoenix is also quite good in it...I only wish Sony had the balls to release the unrated version one day. This could apparently make quite a difference for the movie.

I'm not a fan of the original "April Fool's Day", so- slasher complettist that I am- I'm looking forward to grabbing the remake quite soon.

Apparently the original I SPIT was cut by 16m for the R, if the remake is anything like the original then it will no doubt have to be cut again. Somehow I just can't see the rape ordeal being as graphic or as lengthy as the original though. The BBFC rarely cut rape scenes in modern American films simply because they are not as explicit or exploitative as they were back in the 70's. It will be interesting to see how it turns out. Filming hasn't begun yet

I'm sure the producers will be happy to sell their new version off the infamy of the original (understandably). A film as famous as ISOYG (which will forever be surrounded by myth and rumour) being remade will no doubt create huge interest. My only concern is that they don't have an actress from High School Musical or any of those teen shows. If they do then it'll be a super glossy affair without any substance.

Interestingly the I SPit remake will be released the same year as the forthcoming remake of Death Wish.

I very much doubt that the role of Jennifer Hill would be appealing to the type of actresses you're referring to.
It takes an actress willing to take risks- in the best case even an actress thinking about this in the sense Zarchi orginally intended this movie to be "read"- as "Day of the Woman" rather than just another 70's exploiter update.
I'm still in good hope for this, even more so than the "Last House" redux.

You'll probably see some porn 'star' play the lead as a vechicle for herself .

I hope its not some Buffy side kick , trying to lose her teen image as Steve rightly fears.
This would definitely chase away fans of the original film from even watching outta curiosity .
