And just think of the cash in version of the original we'll get in the UK, probably brought to us by Blackhorse.
With the rape scenes being re edited with senic veiws, the remake will probably appeal to most of the new breed of horror fans who never saw the original.
I'll have some 12 year old in Zavvi telling me to buy the new one as its 'torture porn' and much stronger than the original .
And sadly , with the state the original UK version of ISOYG is in, he'll probably be right.

ANGEL, if a contraversal film is remade and the original is re released, would the BBFC be more lenient with previous cuts so a fair comparison can be made on both directors pieces of the same work by a new generation of veiwer .?

The BBFC only waive cuts if there's a shift in BBFC policy/guidelines or if the film no longer has the impact or shock that it originally had.

If the original ISOYG was resubmitted now it would receive less cuts than before but still heavy ones. The accent on the nudity is as much a problem for the BBFC as the footage of the rapes themselves. The 2nd rape (the 'rock rape') would still suffer the heaviest cuts.

It's impossible to say for sure exactly what cuts would be waived today but some of the cuts made to the cabin scene where she is brutalised could be waived now. In this sequence her nudity is sometimes obscured by the fact that she is now wearing a shirt. The BBFC made some very small snips here including shots of her being draggged by her legs. Also removed was shots of her taking a bath after the rape. The BBFC were just trying to remove as much nudity as they could. But as mentioned the rape on the rock scene is still going to require significant cuts eg the shots of her being placed on the rock would be one cut.

I re-watched the uncut version quite recently and the film still has a huge impact. One day the BBFC will consider passing the film uncut but it won't be for quite some years yet. I'm surprised they passed it uncut in Australia considering the Gore, Gore Girls was banned.

The only uncut version I have is a Dutch VHS copy just named ' Day Of The Woman, and watching that it still is a very powerful film.
It seems longer than a pre cert copy I had titled ISOYG.

I was suckered into buying the Spec. Ed. UK version as it promised a fuller print and added DOTW as an 'aka' as if to give credit to its claims , but any extra footage to the rape scenes was just re edited facial expressions or scenery.
That was a waste of 20 quid, especially as I had a near identical version in abuk's Box of the Banned, and its now only 13 quid for the Spec Ed or 7 quid for the standard Ed.
That'll teach me for buying early.

Do you know if the Shreik release of ISOYG is any better, or if the Shreik release of Nightmares in a Damaged Brain are cut?
I couldn't find a submission for them on the BBFC Website, but a load of titles have appeared from them in HMV from a fiver up and was wondering if they were any better than previous UK versions.

I haven't seen those releases you mentioned, Vipco, but I doubt they would be more complete than the versions that have been classified by the BBFC.

The pre cert of I SPIT was missing some dialogue though the violence was intact.

Default I Spit On Your Grave (2010) Remake

I am curious.

Although the original was an exploitation flick, I think (I know many disagree) that it was a very serious minded exploitation flick that rises above itself into something quite amazing.

Given this and the distasteful nature of the material, what will post-MTV Hollywood do to it? The poster for the remake is very low-brow with a tagline repulsive to anyone who has seen the original ("It's Date Night").

Will the slug slime of Hollywood make this even more exploitative, with none of the power of the original? Will the whole can of worms be opened again?

I am curious.

As far as I can remember from an interview, Meir Zarchi was in no rush to sell the remake rights a few years back, still looking out for the "right" party to take on his flick for the redux treatment.
So, until the first reviews come in, I remain optimistic that the new version will retain the essence of what made the original into a powerful and memorable controversial movie experience.

More than likely. I expect it to be unimaginative tripe as most modern remakes are.

I'd like filmmakers to come up with something original for a change. Can't be that difficult really.

Of all the remakes I have heard of this is the most daft.

You can see they are trying to cash on on Hostel with this.

I can't even think how they would want to take the story any further, there is nothing new to add to this story as it was pretty basic in the original, its just going to be a cheap cash in load of trash.

Why not remake something good and fun like Re-animator.

Haven't they discovered those strange places called 'libraries'? They're full of original material. Oh, sorry, I forgot that most Hollywood execs are illiterate or won't read anything if there's no pictures. (It's true - I was recently advised to get my script turned into a graphic novel, as execs are more likely to read it if there's pictures. I kid you not.)

This remake is even more pointless than most of the other remakes. This will probably just be cheap, lowest common-denominator, generic horror with none of the philosophy or attitude of the original. I'm not really a fan of rape/revenge movies, but I really felt that ISOYG was striving to convey the full horror of rape, which prior to seeing the film I'd never really given much thought to. So I guess that shows the power of the film to the uninitiated - and it made me think. Not many exploitation movies have made me do that - and it's also one of the few films to actually give me nightmares, it had a real impact on my psyche. If I disliked the notion of rape before seeing the film, then I positively loathed it after seeing it. Like I say, it made me pay attention to something I'd never really given much thought to.
