It COULD work to its benefit that almost 15 years have passed since the original "Scream" (arguably- to some) kickstarted horror's big return to the mainstream.
If at least a glimpse of what made the first film appeal to both, the mainstream and fan crowds, gets resurrected for this one, "Scream 4" COULD be the perfect film to wrap things up nicely in Hollywood- as all the telling signs of the slow-but-sure decline in "strong" mainstream horror over the next few years are there.
It can't last forever- though I have been saying that regularly since 2008.
I have my fair share of thoughts on the shortcomings of "Scream 2 & 3", but I'll elaborate more on that in the eventually upcoming reviews.
Anyway, I'm quite convinced that some of the mistakes (particularly in regards to the heavy pre-production down-toning of "Scream 3") won't be repeated in the upcoming chapter.

yes 2 and 3 were not as good as first but I still enjoyed em.
3 was a fresh idea of a movie within a movie which made Wes then re-visit the idea in Wes Craven's New Nightmare which IMO is the 2nd best Nightmare film from the series.

Curious if Stab will make another appearance in this one.
According to what I've read there's been several more Stab sequels since Scream 3...

I'm looking forward to this and am keeping an open mind, regardless of how poor the third one was. I like the idea of a new Scream film coming back every ten years or so and commenting on the newer horror conventions and trends that have occured. I just hope that this one (and the proposed 2 sequels) don't come across as too self-aware and cleverer-than-they-actually-are, which is sort of the impression I get from the trailers. It was clever in 1996 when it hadn't been done to death but much less so now. Still - open mind!

Some news which may be bad to some people, Craven in a interview in Film mag told them that Ehren Kruger came into do script rewrites half way through Wiliamsons original script. Now he said its what the studio wanted in the script that matterd. Main thing here is, Scream 3 was based on Ehren Kruger script and it was the worst of the 3 films so take it as you may.

A minority opinion, I know, but I thought that "Scream 2" was actually worse than Nr. 3, which would have been a lot better if it hadn't been so heavily toned down to meet the climate after Columbine at the time of release.
