Remakes that I've enjoyed (and can remember);

Dawn of the Dead
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Crazies
The Thing
Invasion of the Body Snatchers/Body Snatchers/The Invasion
The Hills have Eyes
Friday the 13th (it was ok, for a couple of things)
Fright Night (I can't even tweet about this until 22/07. No reviews until the end of August)

Evil Dead could be ok.

i love hills remake.
flame me all u want but the original bored me!! just like the original tcm bored me!
now Im all for slow burners...I love the original haunting. its a classic piece of cinema which created atmopshere from almost nothing. while tcm and hills originals were snooze fests.

remake of hills is amazing, it is violent, brutal and entertaining.
I felt dirty leaving the cinema after first viewing! it is a very gritty movie and just like High Tension that can only be done by Aja these days.

TCM remake was average. Its much better then Friday and NOES remakes tho.

I also love Dawn remake and crazies remake.

I thought Dont Look Up remake was decent.

What about Evil Dead II? That already was a remake!

I can only think of The Hills Have Eyes and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Carnival of Souls, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm St, Prom Night, The Fog, One Missed Call etc are all dreadfull.

Evil Dead doesn't need another remake, not after Evil Dead 2.
What Baseball Fury said.....except for The Wicker man!

If we're just talking recent remake contnders I liked the following:

"The Last House on the Left"
"I spit on your Grave"
"Mothers Day"
The Hills Have Eyes"
"Halloween"
"The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"
"The Crazies"
"My Bloody Valentine"
"2001 Maniacs"
"Piranha"
"House of Wax"

I even enjoyed the "Friday, the 13th" and "Toolbox Murders" remakes, though I know those two get a regular bashing in the genre fanbase.

I don't dread the "Evil Dead" remake: If it's any good, great.
If not, the original will still be there to watch and to cherish for eternity...

Actually now i've read all these lists, probably about 50% of remakes are good. The problem is i tend to forget about them and only the rubbish stands out as they are mentioned more than quality remakes such as My Bloody Valentine and The Thing.

Whenever a remake is announced i always groan to myself and think "why", can't producers come up with an original idea nowadays.

Very true indeed. I've got enough ideas to shoot ten new and genuine Horror flicks in a row without
a) copying
b) remaking and
c) repeating myself.

Why do professional producers have so much trouble today? They oughta call me - give me a decent sum of royalties, and I'm in.

Greetings!

Hehe yeah I forgot about Hooper's Toolbox remake, I actually prefer that to the original!

I think a remake of The Evil Dead could be interesting as long as it stays true to the spirit of the original film.

I think that's what I was originally trying to say.
