Here's a great post from the official UK site. Take a few minutes to check out the first short film - one of two - that led eventually to the feature length movie Rare Exports:

RARE EXPORTS INC

The follow up will be published tomorrow at noon GMT.

And here's a little bonus coolness. A couple of really nice examples of Rare Exports concept art...

I think the reviews quoted in the original post are rather off, I certainly wouldn't rank this as a kids or a family film. Unfortunately as soon as you get a child lead actor people will automatically assume that it is a kids film. I would say that this is certainly an adult targeted movie, the tone is too dark and surreal and the pacing too slow for this to really appeal to families/children. It is certainly nothing like Gremlins, Monster Squad etc. and I'm glad to see the Blu-ray case does not seem to try and sell it as such.

I think it depends on the kids you show it to. Certainly, a 10 year old me, post belief in Father Christmas, would have eaten this up but then I was a bit of a spooky kid.

Gremlins is a lot darker than people give it credit for. Phoebe Cates' soliloquy about her dad dying up the Chimney isn't pretty and people expire violently.

Obviously, it's not a Santa Clause movie but I think it's still done in an Xmas family film format, they've just skewed it so it's not suitable for little kids.

Glad it went down well. I love it when I get pre-production art to share.

True, I was mostly thinking about part 2 actually.

Looks interesting, so I'll certainly check it out.

But I'd hardly be advertsising it as a kids film, as it carries a 15 certificate, so not quite family entertainment, I don't think.

The film sprang from two short movies which I've shared on the UK Rare Exports Site:
