I use a site like
http://www.find-dvd.co.uk/ to find stores that have particular discs in stock. You'd be surprised that even long OOP releases might still be in stock somewhere.
I stopped using Play.com as much when they introduced the marketplace, made it much harder to find the DVDs they actually have in stock, since you get dozens of duplicated R1 entries.
