Always found it odd why the German film board is so censorious. During the late 70s/early 80s the German appetite for bloody cinema movies was one of the reasons Italians were so prolific in their output. So why the need to try and curtail things so?

In any case (as has undoubtedly been said elsewhere), you can simply get your uncut goodies next door in neighbouring Austria, or simply download straight off the net. Which begs the question, what do they think they are trying to acheive?
Well, the popularity of the Italian "zombie" movies, particularly on vhs tape in the early 80's, was one of THE main reasons why all the "video hysteria" broke loose in the German media.

As for the other point: They don't acheive anything reagarding the horror fan base, but they certainly do their best to keep the "strong stuff" out of sight and reach of the "average punter", who'll unknowingly pay good money for a butchered "FSK approved" version of the likes of the "Hostel" or "Saw" films.
