context information:
- access to the film materials is controled by the
Italian license holder, this was given the last time in 2007
- actually, it wasn't the OCN that was scanned back then but the
Interpositive (by Technicolor Rome)
- to this day,
NO 35 mm elementes have been accesible to Europen OR US bidders (with the exception of Wildside for Cannes)
-
Technicolor has no influence on that
- (he compares the case to A Fistful of Dollars and A Few Dollars More were it was very difficult to gain access to HD material)
- AS FAR AS HE KNOWS: nothing regarding the Synapse release is fixed to this point, he onlys knows that 84' as well as many more companies were
DENIED access to the 35 mm materials
- (he nonetheless wishes Synapse all the best with their release)
the restoration:
- the
existing HD master is
NOT the problem
- most of the damage was done in
post processing (on various levels)
- their task is now to restore the colors etc. in the way that represent the original material and intended look of the movie
