All this talk of woolen hats reminds me of Winter '78, as a cold 18 year old I walked into Reading Job Centre, as I had just returned to the UK from the States thought I'd see what employment vacancies were like, A women approached me and said "That woolen hat is not suitable, kindly remove it or leave the the premises, that sort of thing is no longer acceptable" I went "sorry?, it's freezing outside" the horror of a woolen hat
to this day I've not seen what the problem was, it was just a normal navy blue hat.
