Synopsis:
Six teenagers host the sex and drug-fuelled party of a lifetime in an old, abandoned asylum, ignoring rumours that the once brutal and controversial home for the criminally insane still houses the spirits of its tormented victims.
After a series of increasingly daring games, they soon raise the stakes and attempt to summon the spirits that haunt the building. However, they soon find themselves fighting for their lives as a vengeful spirit infiltrates the group, wreaking havoc as it moves from one body to the next.
You'll Love It Because
There’s much more to
The Asylum than meets the eye. Though it appears from the outset to be a familiar teen horror, once the horror is unleashed the film proves it has real smarts – and the guts to do things a little differently, recalling the post-modern brilliance of classics such as
A Nightmare on Elm Street and
Scream.
After cutting his teeth in big-name horror franchises, Marcus Nispel plays on the genre’s tropes to create something altogether new with
The Asylum. It’s like an evolution in teen horror, bringing together the slasher, the supernatural, and the urban myth. That’s not to say it doesn’t deliver to what horror fans love most – scares, gore and nerve-shredding tension.
It’s also looks stunning, as Nispel puts his trademark stamp of high production values and slick-but-eerie cinematography on the film.
And it’s not just about the man behind the camera. There’s plenty of talent in front of it too, with a cast of rising young actors all tipped for big things in the movie industry. If they can survive a night in
The Asylum that is…
