I've read it cover to cover with no problems. The prose is just as engaging as ever for me and he covers quite a few movies that I'd never heard of before.
I don't think dip in and out formats suit large scale overviews like this as you don't appreciate how the genre has developed reading it like that. Plus it encourages short attention spans like the internet |
Rigby's stubborn insistence on using original language titles for all films is my first issue. Many of them are far far better known by English titles so trying to use the index for anything is a lost cause. Why not include a director index?
Why are most of the header box things with basic info about the films not actually on the same page as the films they refer too? As I said it's a highly informative read but I would have appreciated a more accessible layout.
