'Pet Sematary' Remake Reportedly Begins Filming in May - Horror Movies

As long as Stephen King has been a published novelist, his works have been steadily adapted for either the big or small screens. One of the more generally well-remembered theatrical King adaptations is 1989’s Pet Sematary, directed by Mary Lambert.

Like almost any film, aspects of Pet Sematary (1989) can now seem dated, but for the most part, it still holds up as an exercise in terror. Especially the scenes with Zelda, which have always made my skin crawl.

Last year, Paramount announced that Pet Sematary was set for a remake, which will arrive in theaters on April 19th, 2019. While IT’s Andy Muschietti made it known that he would love to direct, the job instead went to Starry Eyes helmers Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer.

While a cast has yet to be assembled for the Pet Sematary remake, Omega Underground now reports that it will begin filming in Toronto sometime in May. It’s hard to make a movie without a cast, so one assumes actors will be officially attached soon.

Notably, Toronto is also where Warner Bros. chose to shoot IT. While that’s likely due to various tax credits involved with shooting in Canada, it’ll be interesting to see if Toronto becomes the go-to destination for the production of King-based films
