I've always thought of Card as a bible thumping (insert your own word here) who had nothing new to say in the world of sci-fi literature.
He won the Nebula award and the Hugo and was the critics darling for a time but when you read sci-fi from the fifties and sixties you realise he's nothing new, plus the US military think he's required reading so that says it all really.
