I suppose my one and only experience of a true cinema breakdown is worth a mention - during
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 in 2010, in the sequence where Harry and Hermione are being attacked by the snake - the film honest to goodness broke down and plunged to black. Everyone had to leave room and were offered refunds, which some took, as they didn't know when or if they'd be able to get it going/pick it up. I held out a bit longer, and they thankfully did get it back up from where they left off!
That being said, I do remember one time - can't remember the movie - they started showing a film upside down!
