It does lend itself to the Gothic at times, doesn't it? This is perhaps why it's my favourite installment of the franchise. I do like all of the films in the franchise (barring the post-Resurrection pish that is). Aliens is decent but suffers a little from 'Dawn of the Dead' syndrome where it is essentially an action film with some horror chucked in. Alien 3 is probably my second favourite despite the flaws and I never understood the hate for Resurrection. It toys with some interesting ideas, plus has a great cast and some nice set pieces.

Also, the original Alien remains one of my all-time favourite cinema going experiences when I managed to catch it on a re-release in the early 2000s.
