HAZELL (1978-79), created by Gordon Williams and Terry Venables.
"Originally a series of books written by journalist Gordon Williams and former footballer turner manager Terry Venables under the pen name of P. B. Yuill, Thames Television turned the Sam Spade parody character into a younger version of the private eye for the small screen.
It was a huge hit for Nicholas Ball, who is best remembered for his work on this series.
The series ran for 2 series, 22 episodes and came with a theme tune by Andy Mackay. Added lyrics where provided by Judy Forrest for the end credits which gave vocalist Maggie Bell a minor hit.
As with most series of this kind, it attracted many guest stars including Dana Gillespie, Pat Heywood, Vicki Hodge, Michael Elphick, Suzan Farmer, Gretchen Franklin and Jane Asher."
