"Sony Pictures has announced the release date for Ghostbusters: Afterlife has moved yet again to June 11, 2021. The film was last slated to open in March 2021. This is yet another schedule change due to the varying big-screen availability amid restrictions due to Covid-19.
The film centers on a single mom who moves to a small town with her two kids where they discover their ties to the original Ghostbusters crew and the legacy left behind by their grandfather.
Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Carrie Coon (The Leftovers), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), and Mckenna Grace (Annabelle Comes Home) star in the film alongside Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts, Bill Murray, and Dan Akroyd from the original films.
The film is produced by Ivan Reitman who directed the Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, and directed by Jason Reitman–Ivan’s son–who co-wrote the script with Gil Kenan (Poltergeist 2008).
The trailer for the new film was released back in December of 2019 and fans have been eagerly awaiting the film since then. The June 11th release date falls just over 36 years exactly since the first film’s original release on June 8, 1984."
