Bryan Fuller (Hannibal) is set to write and direct a brand new adaptation of Stephen King’s Christine for Sony and Blumhouse Studios.

King’s novel focuses on a young man named Arnie who becomes obsessed with a 1958 Plymouth Fury that he purchases to fix up. The car has a sinister past and a taste for blood and soon it bends the young man to its will while eliminating anyone who insults them or tries to separate them.

The book was previously adapted by John Carpenter back in 1983. The horror master’s vision of the novel came with a killer score as well as an unforgettable soundtrack of classic 50s/60s rock.

According to Deadline, Jason Blum will produce the film under the Blumhouse banner along with Vincenzo Natali and Steven Hoban. Peter Kang is repping Sony Picture on the film.

Fuller comes to the piece with a solid catalog of work in the genre including cult-television favorites like Hannibal and Pushing Daisies as well as his work on the first–and many would argue best–season of American Gods based on the novel by Neil Gaiman.

The new adaptation joins a rather extensive queue of film adaptations of King’s properties over the last decade with new versions of The Stand and Firestarter as well as first-time adaptation of properties like The Outsider and Lisey’s Story, both of which have received incredible reviews
