A quick Moore top 7.

Live and Let Die (1973)*
The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)
Moonraker (1979)
A View to a Kill (1985)
Octopussy (1983)
For Your Eyes Only (1981)

http://wp.production.patheos.com/blo...freyholder.png

The first four are all excellent. The final three are all very watchable and a lot more entertaining than anything since Casino Royale.

iank 26th May 2018 12:43 AM

Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker are my faves, then FYEO and View to a Kill. Not much for Octopussy to be honest, it's the only one I couldn't remember anything of even though I must have seen it as a kid... and I can see why.

nosferatu42 26th May 2018 01:28 AM

I love "live and let die" because it has a strong blaxploitation black magic voodoo vibe going on, probably my favourite J.B film because it's fun and has a horror element involved, probably one of the least typical Bond films.:pop2:

MrBarlow 26th May 2018 02:02 AM

I watch From Russia With Love, Diamonds are Forever, Live and Let Die, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, The Living Daylights quite alot, was never keen on Thunderball and O.H.M.S.S. slowly warming upto The Spy Who Loved Me. Watched Quantom of Solace twice and still lost the plot.

You can't lose something that was never there in the first place.

I believe Craig tried his hand at the script to make it more coherent. There's that magic word again. Where have I heard that word used somewhere before?

Another quick Roger Moore Top 7.

1. For Your Eyes Only (1981)
2. Live and Let Die (1973)
3. The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)
4. The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
5. Octopussy (1983)

7. Moonraker (1979)

As for Danny Boyle, I'm highly sceptical. I think he's quite overrated.

He is. It's a long time since 28 Days Later, Shallow Grave and Trainspotting.

Crimson Blade 26th May 2018 05:22 PM

Can't imagine that Danny Boyle will have any Bond girls with double entendres like Pussy Galore or Dr Goodhead, either

True, but I think Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours, Trance and T2: Trainspotting were very strong and engaging films. I haven't seen the Steve Jobs biography.

Paul@TheOverlook 26th May 2018 06:29 PM

Jobs is very good, Nos.

Thing is, it's Bond - Eon owns Bond - any competent filmmaker can do a decent job - I shouldn't imagine it will be much like a Boyle film.

I'm a fan - Slumdog is up there with his best work - Trance was a great thriller too. To me he's incapable of making a bad film - A Life Less Ordinary, The Beach and T2 are probably his weakest and they're all still very enjoyable.

Paul Zombie 2nd July 2018 10:07 AM

there will never be a greater Bond than Sean connery. do not like Daniel craig at all. he is dull and boring just like his films. i even would rather have Timothy dalten as his first film with the czech girl Myriam dabo was most enjoyable.

After all the discussion about the merits of Danny Boyle as a filmmaker, Bond 25 is looking for a new director.

The official James Bond Twitter account tweeted:
"Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig today announced that due to creative differences Danny Boyle has decided to no longer direct Bond 25."

I considered the first series of True Detective to be superb long form storytelling and [B]Beasts of No Nation[/B a fantastic film which] should have been theatrically released and not only on Netflix. It will be really interesting to see if there is a discernible difference between this Bond film and the previous couple or whether it's a formula in which the director is largely sidelined by the constraints of the character and script.

Barbara Broccoli speaking to The Guardian.

Bond is male. He's a male character. He was written as a male and I think he'll probably stay as a male.

And that's fine. We don't have to turn male characters into women.

Bond i understand but I've always thought as the doctor as asexual, new who did Sexualise the doctor at least we aren't going to have any of that in the new series as been stated no romance for the doctor.

Demdike@Cult Labs 25th April 2019 02:19 PM

Rami Malek has been named as the new Bond villain.

The official plot summary reads -

Quote:

Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help.
"The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

New James Bond Film Announced 2019

"The 25th edition to the Bond franchise has been announced with Daniel Craig reprising his role as 007 for the 5th time. This is is likely to be the closing Bond film of the Craig era and in his new role as director Cary Fukunaga of True Detective will be looking to recapture some of the excitement & enthusiasm that’s been missing from the franchise since the release of Skyfall. So what’s new?

What’s the New James Bond Title?

As a secret agent, James Bond may have a bad habit of freely offering his real name to strangers, but the real name of this film remains a secret with the working title rumoured to be Shatterhand, or Eclipse.
The Story

It’s been revealed that the movie will start with Bond happily retired in “his spiritual home” of Jamaica before being called back into service by the British Government.

What’s the James Bond Release Date?

With the abrupt exit of former Bond director Danny Boyle as well as subsequent script rewrites, the release date of Bond 25 has been pushed back from an originally planned October 2019 release to an April 2020 release.

The Bond Cast

Ben Whishaw, Ralph Fiennes and Naomie Harris (pictured above) will be reprising their roles as M, Q & Moneypenny. Jeffrey Wright & Lea Seydoux will also be returning to their roles as Felix and Madeleine Swan, newly announced members of the Bond cast include:

David Dencik
Ana De Armas
Billy Magnussen
Dali Benssalah

The New Bond Villain

Rami Malek, will be playing the titular villain of Bond 25, and after his Oscar-winning performance in Bohemian Rhapsody expectations are high.

The New Bond Car

Bond will be roaring off with some instant torque in his new Aston Martin Rapide E (pictured below), Aston Martin’s first Electric vehicle and one of only 155 that will be produced. Bond’s new car cost £250,000… we can only presume at the expense of the British taxpayer."

Oh dear!

If this is true, it will be the Doctor Who backlash x a million!

The next 007 will reportedly be 'Captain Marvel' star Lashana Lynch, who will be the first-ever black female to take the 'James Bond' role | The Insider

"According to the Daily Mail, "James Bond 25" will introduce the new secret agent in a "pivotal scene." While Daniel Craig will still portray the titular charcter, Lynch's character has taken over the iconic number 007 after Bond's retirement.

"There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says, 'Come in 007,' and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful, and a woman," an anonymous source told the Mail on Sunday. "It's a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he's been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman.""

I think they're mickey-taking a bit, to be honest. Isn't the plot that Bond has retired but gets called back in? So presumably the 'new' 007 can't handle it!
Which is pretty funny when you think about it. :pound:

Does sound a bit Pierce Brosnan era which does leave me a little nervous - they were some boring films even when they came out - with the exception of course of Goldeneye.

Demdike@Cult Labs 21st August 2019 01:12 PM

Let's hope Sisters of Mercy do the theme song - No Time to Cry, er' Die.

It looks good to me. Nice use of the classic Aston Martin.

There's speculation that Rami Malek is playing Dr No.

Looks like it could be good, Craig is looking a little over the hill so good it's his last and could be a,good swansong for him.

Mind saying that none of the actors playing Bond have been what you could call spring chickens

it must be a generational thing. my son (14) thinks the last two songs were good (i guess they did win Oscars!) and thinks Billie Eilish is a good choice... oh well... another spin of Shirley for me...
