But the boring ice skating and rehashed ski chase in FYEO is fine?

Each time i'm tempted to watch FYEO the thought of the ice skating makes me cringe and generally puts me off it.

Me too. Have you got the Anchor Bay or Blue Underground DVD of Who Saw Her Die? He's interviewed on that disc and explains what happened with Bond. Basically, after OHMSS his agent told him he was now too big for Bond and promised him the earth and a world of opportunity, so he declined playing Bond again (it was offered). He admitted that his ego got the better of him. Sadly for him the big breaks never came and that's how he ended up in Who Saw Her Die? (Which I actually think is a good film.)

I also love the stories of his endless complaints about co-star Diana Rigg constantly reeking of garlic.

Nothing wrong with an excellent ski chase - Willy Bogner is the man!

As for the ice scating scene: a scene with Lynn-Holly Johnson cannot possibly be boring.

You know the real background? After she had seen Lazenby's almost emotionless face, Rigg thought he must be (un)dead or at least some kind of Vampire.

Therefore the garlic!

Greetings!

I would rather watch Lazenby in a Bond film, than suffer Moore in Moonraker and Octopussy.
Daemonia and Susan Foreman like this.

Amen, brother. I pretty much lost interest in Moore after The Spy Who Loved Me. Although A View to a Kill was pretty decent and Walken made for a great villain. The axe fight atop a suspension bridge at the climax is a particular highlight, not just of this film but in the entire Bond series.

Why so much hate for Moonraker and Octopussy? They're (partly) pretty silly, yeah, but also really entertaining.

The weakest Moore film imho - and I'm saying this as a huge Christopher Walken and an even bigger Grace Jones fan. It's still pretty entertaining.

Talking of which, I watched OHMSS again last night. Still up there in my top 3 or 4.

Just shows how possible it is to make a classic Bond film without all the stupid stuff.

Yes but only in a kind of Carry On Bond way, except there's no Sid James.
