I gotta stand up for FYEO. Its a decent little film but moreover its a really great Bond.

The Bond franchise is a formula franchise certain key notes have to be hit to make it a successful entry. FYEO pretty much goes through the checklist and does all of them.

This is what kills me about the new films. They've pretty much tried to re-invent the wheel with the new films. Sometimes results are fairly positive Casino Royale or extremely negative Quantum of Solace.

Here's the thing though the wheel has already been invented and the James Bond series already has a winning formula.

It seems to me that 'For Your Eyes Only', 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' and 'Casino Royale' are true cult films inasmuch as you either love them or hate them

There is no middle ground

Agreed

It is, in the immortal words of comic book guy, "Best...Bond...Ever!"

And (courting controversy here) I actually liked George Lazenby. I think he should've done at least another one.
Daemonia likes this.

The movie's indeed pretty good, I agree.
George Lazenby is the problem. He was no real actor, and you can tell.
I know that quite a few people like him, but I really don't know why. He's a poor actor, and he has absolutely zero charism. Easily the worst actor ever to portray James Bond.

What's more, I dislike the film's locations. I'm not very fond of winter sports.

Greetings!

I thought Casino Royale was the dullest Bond film ever.
Can't comment on Quantum. But if it's even worse, i won't bother.

I'd also much rather watch FYEO tbh

If i was to pick my worst Bond movie ever i'm pretty sure it would be Thunderball.

The others gain marks or lose them each time i see them but Thunderball never improves, its overlong with too many underwater sequences.

...........

@ Stephen - It would be intriguing to have seen Lazenby given another shot in Diamonds are Forever.

Now THAT would have been terrible! One of my favourite Bond flicks spoiled by this totally unapt male model - what a revolting thought!

Connery looks pretty old in Diamonds Are Forever, that's true. But I'd rather see him play James Bond now, at age 81, than another Bond with hilarious Lazenby or Mr " I'm Sorry, This Is My Only Facial Expression" Craig.

Greetings!
