Thanks for the info!
Separate Amarays would have been nice but for that price...

I never heard the expression "non-letterboxed" before and I ask you if what you meant was open-matte (no matte) or full frame (matted).
My use of the term 'non-letterboxed' is simply and merely to describe a particular print of a film that was shot in widescreen but not presented in said format for one reason or another. I believe 'letterboxed' is just another word for widescreen given the glorious rectangular nature of the cinema-friendly ratio common with productions lensed purely for theatrical exhibition.

For example, take some of BCI's Paul Naschy DVDs. These editions i would classify as being non-letterboxed as i assume the movies in question were surely filmed in widescreen but the distinctive black bars associated with this technology are nowhere to be found on the relevant releases. The same goes for some of MGM's R1 titles too such as Remo Williams:The Adventure Begins, Death Wish 2-4, Miracle Mile and I, Madman among others. Hope i've answered your query as i don't consider myself an expert on shooting formats and/or screen ratios so please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

Yes, but many 70s and 80s titles were shot open matte and then matted in post-production for theater release.

The phrase open matte would be a more accurate way of describing that.

I see what you mean and point taken, guys. Nice to have some clarification on the subject and now back to HKL before being reminded we're off topic!

Glad to hear your viewing time wasn't wasted and imo BCB is not quite the total mess that some sources make it out to be. Obviously, not classic Chan by a long way but enjoyable nonetheless. I've always liked the film and as long as you keep a low-expectant mindset when watching BCB disappointment hopefully shouldn't ensue.

On the movie's theatrical release i believe some fans were mortified with the choice of former Playboy starlet Kristine DeBell as Jackie's caucasian love interest, Nancy. Never bothered me tbh and there's some unintentional fun to be found in the film every now and then.

CEX online really are annoying me. Apart from now charging £2.50 postage, they cancelled my order for the HKL Knockabout saying they "could not source the stock". Lo and behold it is advertised on the site as in stock online, I have had this a few times with them.

Rant over , sorry.

No worries, we all learn from one another.

And you´re not off topic because we´re discussing technical aspects of a release, which the information alone could be useful to someone else.

Anyone interested in trading a Magnificent Butcher HKL DVD? My GF got me a copy, but I already have it.

I would trade it for any original HKL release I don't already have (disks I have can be seen in the photo on my last post in this thread).
